Propaganda, the newest Olympic event?

Waging Democracy On China: Human Rights and an Endowment for Democracy. The Olympics were supposed to celebrate the human spirit, but they've become the chance to show whose tribe is best. The propaganda machines are cranked to 11, and the blogosphere is pimping the product: Boing Boing promoted a hoax, Tibet and human rights: New Amnesty ads, then after a day had passed, they put a correction in the archives where readers who hunted for it would find it. How many saw the lie and how many saw the correction? The difference is the success rate of disinformation. posted by shetterly (6 comments total)

This post was deleted for the following reason: Will, your writeup comes off as kind of axegrindy in general, and with the whole BB kerfluffle in the last few weeks that aspect is really hardcore grudgefilter. This is kind of a problematic FPP for both those reasons. -- cortex

I think you've got two separate issues there. Should I be angry at China or at BoingBoing? I've got a tight schedule.

I've already been angry at China and Boing Boing. Can I go ahead and start being angry at whoever we are supposed to be angry at next week?

"Should I be angry at China or at BoingBoing?"

Considering there's no such thing as General Doctorow's Chicken, I think the choice is obvious.

Will, you've dragged this particular fight from the BoingBoing message boards to Making Light & now here.

If you can put together a decent China / Human rights post then I'd love to see it. This isn't it.

Man, Doctorow's gonna be pissed when he finds out they won't let his team of elite open-source bloggers riding mashup steampunk 2.0 recumbents into the Olympics.
