If you're going to deny that AIDS is caused by HIV, you might want to not die of it.

This post was deleted for the following reason: This was pretty well covered previously, and this is kind of a hell of a way to put together a post on the topic regardless. -- cortex

The saddest part about her dying is that you can't really rub the fact that their wrong in their face when they're six feet underground.

That doesn't stop me from wanting to, though.

You might want to not die of it in either case.

I think, more than anything, it's the desperation to attribute their death to something—anything—besides the obvious that makes this pathetic and sad.

Previously on MeFi (January 5, 2009 ): Christine Maggiore has died.

Well, number one this is kind of LOL UR DEAD, which kind of seems not cool, and number two this basically seems like an excuse for a bunch of people to get all superior about basically not being a flat earther, which isn't high on my personal list of accomplishments, and number three, this also basically seems to be about starting a big fight on the blue for no real reason when it's been kinda nice out today and it's about to be the weekend so anyway flagged.

Is there anything left that I can become famous for denying? I came up with gravity, but I guess it needs to be borderline plausible.

ACT UP/San Francisco is mentioned several times as a "denialist organization". That's surprising, as I and probably most people think of ACT UP as a good, worthwhile organization. I guess there's the possibility of rogue local chapters in any large organization, though.

Also, Christine Maggiore was straight up evil. She let her own daughter die because she convinced herself that she was somehow smarter than the whole of medical science. May her name become a curse and may the ground she's buried in be sowed with salt.

If you want to deny global warming you probably shouldn't live in Bangladesh or Florida!

... LOL?

Also, Christine Maggiore was straight up evil. She let her own daughter die because she convinced herself that she was somehow smarter than the whole of medical science.

She didn't take antiretrovirals during her pregnancy, which would have increased the risk of parent-child transfer. But there was still a decent chance of not passing it on even with the drugs, however she also breast fed her baby. Now that's fucked up.

Attributing a moral lesson or extracting humour from somebody's death because of the way they lived their life is a terrible thing to do.
except for the Darwin awards amirite

ACT UP is a great org in a lot of places. The SF chapter, as I understand it, was taken over by denialists and is a disgrace to the rest of the organization.
