Guilty drinking in front of children - why? This idea that there should be a sharp divide between people that have children and those who don't, that suddenly you should be whisked from one world to a completely different one is stupid. Bring your kids to the bar if you like, but if you're there with them past midnight and it's a smokey bar, then the problem is your parenting, not their presence in my bar.

I think that is ironic that someone would claim that spending time with their children = "clinging to their youth"

To summarize: Some "adults" complaining about their kids while disguising it as somebody else's fault. Why can't parents be allowed to bring their babies into bars, parents get bored at home watching the kids, why can't parents be a part of the adult world too, I have to go to the bathroom.

Indeed - but the story's talking about people bringing their kids into the bar in the afternoon. If you need to drink until you puke, become incoherant with swearing (two behaviours mentioned) at *4 in the afternoon* you probably should be investigating AA, not worrying about other peoples' kids.
Also, the people complaining about the whole notion of children being where booze is had better never go to Europe, or their heads may explode. Or, hell, even places like this.

Wait, they allow kids in bars? Every one I've been to has been 21+ with a bouncer carding people at the entrance.

You know, many a kid raised in decades past accompanied mom or dad to the pub and turned out okay. I know my father would go with his pop to the local bar out in the sticks on the weekends. Lazy parenting? Perhaps, but if the game is on and you need a pint why not head down there. The kids will see some colourful locals and probably get something delicious and greasy to eat. It might even be a good way to introduce your kids to the idea that alcohol and exists and can be enjoyed responsibly on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

We have some pubs that are kid-friendly, and some that aren't. Is this like healthcare again, and there's a special American reason that this can't be resolved?
