For 70 years, this picture has been used to tell the same story – of inequality, class division, “toffs and toughs”. As an old Etonian closes in on Downing Street, it is being trotted out again.

The toughs from the previous post beat up the toffs from yours.

I was in Oxford on one of those US-students-overseas programs one of the years that Cameron was at Brasenose (when I figured that out lo these many years later, I had to go take a shower to get rid of the case of the heebie-jeebies that I got). I think I may have actually seen him walking down the High Street one spring afternoon in the same getup that the kid leaning against the bollard was wearing.

That is a long article. At first I thought they weren't even going to cover the three "toughs" but you actually have to scroll down quite far to find out about them.

One comment I read over at Crooked Timber mentioned that the article itself was somewhat classist in that the three "toughs" were covered much less than the two "toffs."
