After 34 years, Cathy Guisewite is putting "Cathy" out to posture. "Ms. Guisewite, 59, said the autobiographical strip has been 'the most astonishing form of therapy,' but her 'creative biological clock' was ticking and she wanted to try something else -- although she is not sure what."
The final "Cathy" will run on October 3. The strip currently runs in about 1400 newspapers.
Of "Cathy," Jaye Berman Montresor wrote in 1994, "While Cathy is a character with whom many modern women can readily identify, she buys into our cultural norms regarding beauty and boyfriends more than she questions them, and as a result, many feminists have found her wanting as a positive role model for women."
