No Trip to London

Angry Girlfriend. (SLYT, in Swedish.)

In Swedish, but here is the gist:

Boy and girl planning a trip to London.

Girl gets angry because she has nothing to wear.

Boy suggests girl could perhaps buy some clothes in London.

Suggestion not well-received. Girl screams "What am I going to wear to buy clothes?" Girl turns into Angry Girlfriend.

Boy records Angry Girlfriend's temper tantrum in secret and uploads to YouTube.

500,000 people in Sweden view it.

Well, having seen those pants, her anger and frustration is understandable.

I don't speak Swedish but she seems to be saying:

"How can I get on a plane when the only clothes I have are straight out of a Europe video? Look at these pants. These pants are psychological terrorism."

That puts the video in a more humorous form for me so I wish I understood what she was saying to get more value out of this video.

And if she's talking about the pants she's wearing, she's right. But I'm assuming she DID buy them in the first place? I don't understand why people buy things they don't love and don't look good in.

Huh. If my hypothetical girlfriend behaved like that over some clothes, she would be an ex-girlfriend. And I expect that if I ever filmed her secretly and then uploaded it to Youtube (barring something happy like a birthday surprise) I would soon be an ex-boyfriend.

So maybe they're perfect for eachother.

The only reason I'm alive today is that small video cameras didn't exist back when I dating a lass who must remain nameless. One temper tantrum started over socks, evolved over 12 hours, two car loads of people and half of southern England, and resulted in half of her friends leaving her house and never speaking to her again.

I'm pretty sure it was socks.

Mind you, this was after she stormed off, abandoning in the middle of a foreign city. That was fun since I didn't recall the address of her student house where my hone, cash and passport were hiding. She was less than impressed when I got home before her.

Google translate does a pretty decent job of translating the debate article written by the girl, defending her behaviour.

Yeah about that, that is a rather poor translation. The swedish word "straffknulla" should translate more along the lines of "punishfuck", it's a verb, it's something you do.

One of the constant issues in my life has been my struggles with what I consider to be a bad temper. I don't blow often, but when I do, it can get ugly. Most of the time I have it under control, but it's always there, keeping the blood pressure more elevated than it should be, looking for a way to breach the leaky dam of self-control I constantly plug and reinforce.

And then I see some basically crazy person totally losing their shit over what fucking clothes to wear and I realise I'm not such a mad, bad guy after all.

Ah, hilarious cretins of the internet. Is there any mental illness you can't undermine by comparing it to one girl's emotional display on the internet?

one girl's emotional display on the internet

Some see an emotional display on the internet. Others are reminded of shattered dishes, destroyed furniture, threats, and holes in the drywall.

I don't know if it's cultural but I too can release a lot of frustration in a graphic way for mundane reasons, much like the girl in the video. But as soon my frustration stems from interactions with other people, or serious matters I have no problem keeping the frustration at bay and dealing with the frustration source in a reasonable/constructive way. As a matter of fact, I think part of the reason why I don't lose my shit when there's more serious frustration is my frequent ventilations that don't matter that much in the big picture. Like constant small scale anger therapy, letting of some steam so it don't build up.

And of course LOL WOMEN!

Not to mention we're missing a lot of context here. Maybe the guy is a constant source of annoyance and irritation, and this was the last straw for her. The fact that he recorded this and uploaded this for her public humiliation indicates that as a possibility. On the other hand, those hysterical women and their clothes!

Having read her response, I'm all for personal mea culpas and whatnot however at some people are indeed responsible for their behaviours. Regardless of the emotional demons that happen to be torturing one at any given moment.

She speaks of everything going black and going into a rage and how her boyfriend was helping her by filming the incident so that she could see how she looked in these moments.

Um. Yeah. I hear that and this is certainly not an attack against her but people are still responsible for the results of their actions. In the mental health culture of Western medicine, we have taken tremendous strides toward mitigating the impacts of mental health disturbances however that does not mean that such behaviour is acceptable or should be encouraged.

She either thinks 1) more people should act out, or 2) more people should come forward that they have anxiety attacks. Or maybe 3) that more people should post their anxiety attacks to youtube, but I doubt that.

I am actually not in complete agreement there. People should get help, of course, but not in public spheres where the anxiety attack becomes a rallying cry or god forbid a functioning part of their identity.

/rant (there's a bit of venting here it's true.

I'm in the middle of writing a short research paper on treatment for boundary disorders and it's upsetting me that there are quite a few comments in the space that begin, "you're not responsible, don't take it personally." Mofo, don't take that sh*t personally, but you are responsible. And it's not a good thing. What's the next step? "Celebrate your anxiety disorder and punch a hole in the wall! It's not your fault!")

I am actually coming to quite like the design of those pants as well. They're hypnotic really.

Completely. Your SO has a fit in her private living quarters? Film it, put it on the web and humiliate her. And don't forget to include disturbing closeups of your own hairy naked legs in the shot!
