Any time archives are found of something that had been assumed to be lost, my heart swells up a little bit.

Listening to Cooke's "Letter from America", as an American, was always both a weird and warming experience. I suppose hearing oneself described to oneself tends to be a little weird, but it never felt alienating. Even if he did it out of a sense of courtesy towards his host country, he seemed always to be more optimistic about America than Americans are.

I particularly love how much he is delighted by Cooke on rehearing a tape from '86. The dust in my room seemed to escalate when he read the letter from Cooke's daughter in which she thanked him 'for loving someone who I loved so much'.
