Disturbing & Beautiful Snow Globe Art

Walter Martin & Paloma Munoz carve beautiful minature scenes with an otherworldly (almost nightmarish) quality about them, and then display the finished product in snow globes. Full gallery here, additional gallery here.

Well these are just fantastic. I want the entire collection.

I wasn't the only one looking for a "buy now" link, I guess.

I think this is that lame kind of art that they don't sell. But someone DOES sell outrageously expensive numbered prints of some of the stuff.

Oh, btw, one other, smaller gallery here, which includes this nice shot of all the globes on display, and this globe featuring a policeman assassinating a suspect, which I didn't see in either of the previously linked galleries.

hmm well jonson, those aren't really outrageously expensive. sure, i can't afford one, but... that ain't a bad price for that quality and size of print.

Yikes, that assassination scene is incredibly creepy. And the rest are great, too - Shirley Jackson meets Little Red Riding Hood in Orwell's Oceania or something. Strangely gorgeous stuff, thanks.

Twisted and beautiful, and a really cool idea. Thanks for this. (The "Little Red Riding Hood"-ish one struck me, too.)

Very cool! But the prints don't do it - I want one of the globes. Of course, depending on price, I might have to sell my car to afford one if just the prints are going for over $1k - but I would consider that!

All I want is for the exhibit to come to a gallery near me. Those globe look like they'd fit in the pockets of my bulky jacket quite nicely. Plus, since I work in marketing, ripping off artists is like second nature.

Those are pretty awesome.

Oh, we can't buy one? Why not make your own?

Prepainted model train figures and such here. See also: traveler and traveller. Mix and match between scales for giants/dwarfs. There's all kinds of surreal stuff in there. Scene pieces, animals, trees and such, too. Empty snowglobes here and here.

If you're stuck for ideas for bizarre scenes, look to books and movies to recreate your favorite horror thrillers, implausible moments in science fiction, erstatz kung fu demonstrations, etc. Or try notable natural disasters, conflicts or coups.

Plus, since I work in marketing, ripping off artists is like second nature.

Ahahaha. Ha. *growls, bares pointy teeth*

You can't rip me off. I'm giving it away!

Solves the Xmas gift problem for all those goth godparents out there - watch those little faces slowly darken on Christmas morning!

Super. Thanks.

Brilliant work. Thanks again, jonson (now I'm going to whack a League of Gentleman DVD into the player and get all snowdomey with the folks of Royston Vasey).
