Neat, but when it comes to typewriter jams, my heart still belongs to Eno (Fripp and Mavis Beacon trade riffs starting at 1:46).

I think this is rather neat; it should keep me occupied for 20 minutes or so.

Looking at the via link, I immediately recognized the name Gavin Purcell, but a quick search reveals he's mostly known for working on Attack of the Show, which I've never seen, and is a co-producer on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, which doesn't start until Monday. Does anyone know if there's another reason his name might have been so familiar to me?

This was better than I thought it would be. Is it just me or is there a sample of George Michael (Wham!era) on there?

Has anyone created sheet music for this? This would have been so much more fun than "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing."

Are you referring to the letter 'M'? I think 'V' is Freddie Mercury, maybe a "Body Language" sample?

Just press both hands down on your keyboard and leave them there. Do that for two hours.

This is rock and roll.

If you click on the head at the top, you get a few seconds of the James Brown "Funky Drummer" loop, possibly the most sampled beat of all time. If it sounds familiar, you might recognize it from every song ever made.

(Great, now I'm gonna spend the rest of the night mumbling "I'm rated R, this is a warning, ya better void, poets are paranoid, DJs destroyed"...)

Nice enough, but it doesn't hold a candle to the mighty dubselector (that's #8 in the link - there are many more to try!).

this kind of works like the jotto mixulator, (made sometime arounds 2002 or so at first), but that has cooler animation.

Oh, man. From now on, whenever pb solves a bug in typically awesome fashion, I am going to hear the sound this thing makes when you type in his username.

Wham!era

Definition: a device that George Michael uses to take photographs.

I can only get sounds when I click with my mouse. Does this respond to keyboard presses under normal circumstances? Is Safari being stupid again?
posted by lekvar at 9:50 PM on February 27, 2009

Yeah, it ought to be working w/ keyboard. Running on my system, though, it is nowhere near responsive enough to do anything of rhythmic interest.

And if you tab into the head at the top so that it's highlighted, you can simply press the space bar over and over to keep the loop going.

I know I am late to this party, but that drum break is NOT funky drummer as was mentioned earlier in the thread

While Funky Drummer is sampled like crazy, and Eric B. and Rakim DO use it on Lyrics of Fury (which you quoted), the drum break the plays when you press the head button is from the Soul Searchers song Ashley's Roachclip

Also - if you hold down some buttons, you can see these weird images that pop up. One of them, I think, might have been a daft punk robot head.

Are these daft punk samples? A few remind me of robot rock.

So now, you can spend the rest of the night mumbling "Me and Eric B and a nice big plate of fish, which is my favorite dish, but without no money it's still a wish" instead.

I think the click-the-head loop is actually sampled directly from "Paid in Full" (which originally sampled it from Ashley's Roachclip, of course), it certainly sounds identical.

Neat. I not only made Kanye's next new hit song, but the ugly ass video to go with it.
