When I last travelled to Australia, I flew with Thai Airways. At the beginning of the flight, they played a short film about King Norodom Sihanouk's contributions to Thai aviation. (IIRC, he was a trained pilot, and a keen supporter of aviation.) At the time, I put it down to Thailand's worshipful attitude to their royalty, filing it alongside it being technically a crime to step on a coin that's rolling away because it has the King's portrait on it.

Something haunting about how this is all right before the Cambodian civil war and the US bombing campaign that would shape so much of subsequent Cambodian history.

I'm trying to remember what Spalding Gray said about him in Swimming to Cambodia. There's a phrase that goes something like "that happy, sexy, sax-playing Prince".
