[this is bad]
I hate YouTube only posts.
Especially when there are 8 clips to watch.

Sheesh, could have linked to the much easier to understand "Daft Punk Samples".

Thanks for this. As a recent arrival from the Paleolithic, I didn't already know about My Sweet Lord and Vanilla Ice.

If that weren't enough, Vanilla Ice's hit 'Ice Ice Baby' is in fact not an original composition but borrows heavily from Queen's 'Under Pressure.'
Which is the single most compelling argument for why this sort of derative "composition" should not only be illegal, but classified as a crime against humanity.

No, I'm overstepping my bounds to say that you are not allowed to do this. Youtube only posts aren't de facto bad, but there is no context here at all, and the implication "Great artists steal - Pablo Picasso" was some demonstration of how Picasso ripped someone else off, which is not what the links show (yes, I know he said the quote).
There is no way to skim a video clip, so the fpp has to provide more context than "mystery posts" that link to text or photos that are easily skimmed.

Do you guys really not get what this post is about or are you just playing dense? When someone posts here maybe you should focus more on clicking the links and less on complaining to hear the sound of your voice (its annoying for the rest of us). These videos were great, thanks brokencode

I fuckin' hate mystery posts.
*spits, shoots mystery post in the gut*
Now, if he'd a bin wearin' decent title attributes, I mighta said leave him be, but eight youtube links with no sign of where those links might lead?
*shoots mystery post right between its little close-set eyes*

Mystery posts can work if the poster has a decent reputation. But eight youtubes as a first post?

I'm with pracowity. When I'm in a good mood, I scan the title attributes or click on the More Inside to find out what a mystery post is really about. When I'm in a bad mood, I curse the poster and move on.

Wow, that "Daft Punk Samples" thing really has me all conflicted about my love for Daft Punk. I knew about Cola Bottle Baby and HBFS.... but Digital Love? Robot Rock? Voyager? Crescendolls? EVERYTHING? AUGH!

I can't figure out why you didn't use the original under pressure video.
And you need some Jimmy Page links, cause he was a thieving magpie if there ever was one.
And are you saying that Vanilla Ice is a great artist then?

And I never could figure out why Vanilla Ice was so vilified for that song. The entire canon of rap/hip hop is based on samples isn't it? It was a fun little pop song, but I have never been part of the authenticity equals art crowd.

Not to derail, and I can't access youtube here, so can't link it for you, but wasn't "Under Pressure" actually a David Bowie song? Oh wait, I see. Queen wrote, Bowie sang it with them.

I think you could find many, many songs that are similar to the Cat Stevens one -- created both before and after it. It's a pretty common set of chords and structure.

I had a legitimate freak-out moment when I first heard the Cat Stevens song; I knew I'd heard that song somewhere else before. Then I dug around a bit and discovered that I wasn't the first to notice the similarity. Long story short: the Flaming Lips now pay Yusuf Islam royalties.

But it's the melody, too. If you could sue solely over a chord progression, there wouldn't be many pop songs in the world.

thecaddy, apropos to the thread, I liked the burning sensations cover on the repo man soundtrack better. I'm not claiming they are great musicians, but I heard their version first.
