pfft. my podcast has been playing elvis perkins for weeks. WEEEKS.
Also, he's had a pretty tragic homelife. Dad died of AIDS, mom during 9/11. Sad.

Elvis Perkins sounds a'ight.
And I guess those Odis guys would be a good listen for those find John Mayer just a little too edgy. The fact that they put the word "soul" in their myspace URL AND their genre kind of proves the old saying: "if you have to say you are, you aren't."

I caught him on Letterman last night and it floored me. I had never heard him before and now I'm definitely interested in hearing more.

Man, guiatar, microphone. That was wonderful.
except for the big standup bass to his left plus the drummer and whoever the hell was playing the harmonica.
Anyways thanks for the post. I like this sound, so it was right up my alley.
I'm just floored that this thread isn't filled with more whiny bitching about posting of new musicians stuff. I was pretty disgusted with some of you after that Regina Spektor thread last week.

The Letterman appearance reminded me of Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense film.
The Elvis Perkins musicians enter one at at time during the course of the song, building the sound in layers. Pretty cool! Of course, in Stop Making Sense the musicians came out gradually over the first half of the concert, instead of just during a single song.
