Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed in dramatic fashion early Tuesday when a container ship lost control and rammed into one of its main supports, littering the harbor with wreckage and trapping dozens more ships behind it. Though the crew suffered no injuries and traffic on the continuous-truss bridge (the world's third-longest) was thankfully light, rescuers are searching the water for victims in what is being called a developing "mass casualty event", leaving the Port of Baltimore closed for the forseeable future. I saw the video of the collision this morning and my jaw just dropped. That bridge folded like a house of cards and I was reminded of Pont Champlain in Montreal, a bridge that makes me very very nervous to cross.

This is just terrible. I am so sorry for the people who perished. How awful.

Been watching this story all morning. Currently authorities are saying 6 people are still missing. The collapse occurred around 1:30 am eastern, so unfortunately they've been in the water for several hours now 😕
