The SUV Ticket Campaign...for those that aren't keen on vandalism.

Boy, it makes me almost want to trade in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Almost.

Now THAT is a way to actually help the situation...

I've often considered giving out pseudo-tickets for inconsiderate drivers and parkers. E.g., people who take up FOUR SPACES for their SUVs.

I like this better than the sticker idea.

Unfortunately, the amount of paper it would take to "ticket" only the SUV's in my building's section of the parking garage would almost mitigate any potential positive effects these tickets would have on the drivers.

I can only assume the majority of single passengers bullying their way through the narrow, congested streets of Atlanta in over-built dangerous SUV's take secret, rugged back roads through the forests and streams to get to work in the morning. To believe otherwise would be to think that thousands people would willingly pay exorbitant amounts of money for a vehicle that makes some of the nation's worst air quality and traffic even worse, and poses danger to other motorists. My faith in humanity is shaky enough as it is. I don't think it can withstand such a blow as this.

I've gotta believe that the fastest-growing market segment for SUV's is the same crowd who were buying Audis, Saabs, etc. before US auto makers started copying European safety features. In other words, the folks who can't drive well enough to avoid accidents, so they want to make sure they aren't inconvenienced by the 2-3 they cause each year.

The big myth is that SUVs are safe. They aren't. They have poor handling, poor braking, poor bad weather performance, etc. etc. This is another example of how the public can be completely duped by overhyped marketing campaigns. But, hey, hundreds of mangled and dead Ford Explorer drivers and passengers can't be wrong can they?

The SUV Ticket Campaign? What a stupid idea. Instead of targeting the drivers of SUV's; target the automakers.

All SUV's are not gas guzzlers. My Jeep Grand Cherokee (V6) gets excellent gas mileage.

I don't drive down back roads through the forests.. However I do easily drive through the snowy roads of Chicago; as I pass by cars stuck in the snow.

Regarding the Ford Explorer related accidents, I'm sure of lot of that was caused by the Firestone tires.

A lot of SUV's are safe that's why State Farm is reducing rates. For State Farm rate reductions click here.

I'll be a getting a 30% rate reduction on my premium.

Andre, I'm not sure how "excellent gas mileage" is defined in your book, but in mine, 16 mpg city and 20 mpg hwy doesn't even come close.

Fortunately, some insurance companies are paying enough attention to notice that SUV's are more likely to cause damage to other vehicles and drivers.

Aaaugh, I meant excellent mileage for a SUV (V6). Of course my mileage isn't good as a small coupe or sedan; but it was a lot better than the V8 Jeep that I drove for about a week.

Harmful, according to your link State Farm stated "owners of SUVs and other big cars will still pay more for their insurance than small-car owners do"... State Farm premiums for SUV drivers will be still higher than the norm.

Doesn't matter if your ginormous vehicle causes more damage to smaller vehicles; that's their insurance company's problem, not yours. At least in a no-fault state. Thus, rates for smaller cars should actually be going up as the chance of being hit by a SUV increases.
