Would you belive it, this is my last day at work, and these guys recommend that I do what I have done every day since I got here!
No mention of the ultimate time waste though.

Self promotion is considered a cardinal sin here on MeFi, Oliver.

This post is too spooky. Today's the last day of "work" following my announcement of my "voluntary layoff." I've been spending about 80% of my last three weeks looking at MeFi. Now, while wasting time at work, I find a post on MeFi about how to waste your time at work, including looking at MeFi.

A friend of mine once visited the comic book artist Jim Woodring. He showed my friend an invention of his: a set of mirrors arranged so that your right eye looked into your left eye and your left eye looked into your right eye.

"Don't look in it too long," he told my friend. "You won't want to see what happens."

*chuckle* I'm trying to get through my last few days at this job before I switch over to the company that just hired me (Actually, I met the guy I'm replacing on MeFi...) and since they're phasing out my duties here, I don't have a heck of a lot to do. *shrug* Sweet link!

my self, I question the self-promotion thing. Oliver has a funny site, so what if he's the author, people here can judge content and dismiss content that's no good.

this may make me a MeFi Liberal, but I think as long as no one is selling or doing obvious spam, selfpro is ok

Well, brucec #7495, that policy has been in place since long before you got here two whole weeks ago. If self-promotion were liberally permitted, MeFi could turn into nothing more than a bulletin board for advertisements driving hits to banner-advertised sites, rather than the erudite and disciplined community that it is.

Aside from outright flammage and personal attacks, it's just about the only reason I know of for which Matt simply removes threads.

I don't disagree with the fact that the site is funny, far from it. But Oliver is listed as a director, it's a for-profit site and he linked to it on the front page of MeFi.

this may make me a MeFi Liberal, but I think as long as no one is selling or doing obvious spam, selfpro is ok

Not according to the guidelines it's not. If you think they should be changed, put it up for discussion in Metatalk.

Martin Luther you're definitely not. To re-iterate:-

If you think they should be changed, put it up for discussion in Metatalk.

It's really not that difficult to do, is it?

heheh.

and as I am finishing out my last few days here (in which SpecialK will be replacing me), I spend quite a bit of time each day trying not to double post here.

:P

(btw, fyi @ specialk: if you're going to kill time here, do it in netscape. they monitor exploiter via the proxy.)

heh heh.

Davehat, just when I thought my excessive play on the net couldn't become more shameless, you toss out sodazoo. Next week's going to be a total bust now...
