Best Drag 'n Drop Web Site Editor?

Hey all, I used to do a lot of web dev. I don't anymore (Hooray!) and I like to keep it that way. However, my new gig requires me to keep a pretty active portfolio. I've been using Squarespace for a year or two but I find the "template" system to be super cumbersome and unwieldy. What's the state of the art in the drag 'n drop, no-admin-necessary website (Wix et. al.)?. More criteria inside.

Vintage/ Classic Car Websites?

I am looking for recommendations for websites/ blogs that feature photo-heavy articles on classic and vintage automobiles. I already follow Petrolicious. I wouldn't mind something that skews a little more American muscle from the 80's and prior, but any and all recommendations from any genre are welcome.

Female fashion blogs emphasizing "buy it for life" quality?

I found this men's fashion blog called Well Spent and I love it. I love the emphasis on responsible sourcing (environmentally and labor-wise), a lot of made in the US and Canada items, and "buy it for life" quality– meaning items so well made I could hand them down to my kids. Is there a woman's fashion blog like this?

Introduction to modern poetry

I have never really gotten into modern poetry, but I've recently read a few poems by Dana Gioia, and I'd like to learn more. A dozen years ago, I was in the same position with modern art and Mark Rothko. I happened to find a copy of H. H. Arnason's History of Modern Art in my college's library, and now I consider myself something of an expert on the subject. I'm looking for a book that will do the same for poetry.

No electrons were harmed.

For over 35 years, Roy Underhill has shared his love of American woodcraft. Using only the hand tools of early America, Roy proves that woodworking doesn’t have to be noisy, dangerous or expensive. His insights into the principles of the craft reveal the enduring relationship between tools and material — between the human hand and the creations of culture. 142 episodes of the Woodwright's Shop is available free of charge from PBS. Each episode features construction of a woodworking project using traditional methods or a lesson on use of a traditional tool or technique.

Book-filter: Engaging and technical science writing

How to find a real mandarin dub of Chibi Maruko Chan?

I'm learning mandarin and am looking for good shows at an appropriate level... My girlfriend has a dub that she got in Flushing (Chinese name is Xiao Wanzi), and it's fine enough, but he image quality is terrible... It's clear it's just a bootleg. I'm totally happy actually paying for this, but I have no idea where to find it! Finding even the English version these days is tricky, so I have no clue how to find a Mandarin dub. Extra credit is other Mandarin shows I should check out at a sort of intermediate working on advancing level!

Enough

America's gun problem is completely unique: Why is it that for all the outrage and mourning with every mass shooting, nothing seems to change? To understand that, it's important to grasp not just the stunning statistics about gun ownership and gun violence in the United States, but America's very unique relationship with guns — unlike that of any other developed country — and how it plays out in our politics to ensure, seemingly against all odds, that our culture and laws continue to drive the routine gun violence that marks American life.

Help me make a collage of photos and send it off to be printed A4 (UK)

I have tons of photos of me and my partner on my iphone and would like to put them all together in a grid fashion (maybe 10x7 photos ish) to then be sent off and printed so i can frame it and give it to her as a present. I would really like an app that would be able to do all of this in one shot but cant seem to see any. Failing that, any other option that is kind of straight forward. Id rather not be messing around with Photoshop templates and stuff if possible.

Help me learn more about the history and craft of television

Where classical and pop music collide

I've been listening to Ben Fold's new album So There pretty much non-stop for the past couple weeks. Suffice it to say, I absolutely love it, and I'd like to find more artists/albums that have similar qualities to both parts of the album, but I'm stumped as to where I should look for it.

Take me from woodworking zero to woodworking hero!

I'd like a better working knowledge of practical furniture design for wood, along with general woodworking best practices—and I feel like there's probably a better way than my current system of building lots of frustrating projects and learning what not to do one thing at a time. Please point me to the resources—books, magazines, communities, etc.—that got you over the hump.

What kind of intriguing questions can I ask my friends?

One of the reasons I like Facebook (don't kill me) is that it connects me with a lot of my friends near and far. For the past week, I've been posting questions that start off with "Because I'm curious…." which has resulted in a lot of great banter, but it also helps me to get to know people too. Help me come up with more questions.

An Interview with T. M. Scanlon

Yascha Mounk at the utopian conducts An Interview with T.M. Scanlon: I: Free Will, Punishment and The Significance of Choice
The Utopian: One of philosophy’s oldest worries is causal determinism: the fear that, if what we do and think is determined by physical processes beyond our control, then we should abandon moral categories like praise and blame and choice. But I take it that you’re less worried about that than many of your colleagues? Tim Scanlon: I think there are three ways in which this problem arises – the problem being the possibility that a causal explanation of a reaction we give would undermine its significance in one way or another.
T.M. (Tim) Scanlon is Alford Professor of Natural Religion, Moral Philosophy, and Civil Polity at Harvard, a moral philosopher, expert in contractualism, and the author of What We Owe To Each Other

How to remotely help father with computer.

My Dad often has trouble with the computer that run along the lines of "can't download email attachment" or "doesn't know how to forward email". I need a program that will allow me to access his computer remotely so I can do simple common tasks for him, as he's unable to retain the information even when we go through it step-by-step, over long drawn out phone calls. Being able to see what's on his screen, or to indicate to him where to click would simplify things for both of us greatly. I have used RealVNC before, but only within a home network and don't know how challenging it is to do over the internet. We are both using Windows 7. Thanks.

Is there a Pandora for eBooks?

I'm looking for a service/app/website to help me discover new [e]books to read - a little like how pandora works for new music. Ideally I could enter an book and get lists of 'similar' books. In this case similar might be genre, author, series, plot details, setting. Other functionality I'd love would be to replicate the book-store experience of browsing shelves (especially the New Release section) to find books.

Buying guide needed: dinnerware edition

I'm looking to buy new everyday dishes and I don't know how to find something I'll be happy with. Dishwasher- and microwave-safe is easy, since most tell you that right up front. But I also want dishes that are resistant to chipping, even if clattered around a bit, and ones that don't show knife/tool marks readily. I gather I want stoneware rather than earthenware, but are there specific features, or price points, I should be seeking? Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated.

Mystery novels with non-detective, non-legal protagonists.

I'm looking for good mystery novels with protagonists who are not cops, not PIs, not lawyers, etc., and who are not really working with those sort of professionals, and who may also be in over their heads. They may accidentally fall into the mystery, or they may bring it upon themselves. The point is that they are "civilians" who must investigate a mystery.

Examples of amazing but still accessible writing?

I'm not a smart man. But I do enjoy well written things. But well written books, poems, articles or whatever sometimes seem to be to hard to get into. Anyhow I would love to have examples of what people find to be amazing, creative and perhaps unique in the form of the written word. I don't care if it is famous or not. The best of the best of accessible yet amazingly written works. Thanks!

Far future, alien-feeling SF recommendations

I'm getting fairly tired of science fiction set in the near or medium future where society and motivations are an extension of modern life. I'd like something set so far in the future that there is nothing that really calls back to earth politics or history or culture, or something which may well be in an alternate universe because earth-like things never even come up.

The best future is a mystery novel

I really enjoy Robb's "in death" series and recently discovered Alex Hughes' Mindspace series which I enjoyed tremendously. (And, many, many years ago, likely before most of you were born, I read Asimov's stories and will always remember fondly R. Daneel Olivaw.) Feel free to go medieval on this question

I am seeking recommendations of fiiction set in medieval times - but, I'm not interested in mysteries, stories focusing on kings/queens/knights/battles etc, or fantasy. Rather, I'm looking for accurate depictions of people living in that era-- their lives, struggles, adventures. I've read the Ken Follett trilogy and enjoyed the first 1.5 books. Really liked Noah Gordon's The Physician. What are you favorites?
