The boy ain't right.

I think what you mean is, "It's not right, but it's okay."

I remember when "fierce" didn't mean "inaudible".

The boy's fine the way he is. The song does have a freakin' message, you know.

Star Wars Kid was born too soon.

Whatever way that boy was born, I like what he's doing with it.

Hey, he's pretty good once he gets warmed up. I hope he doesn't get his ass kicked at school over his videos, but I'm not optimistic. Rock on all the way, Timmy. And maybe you'll get to sing with Gaga when she comes to your town, too.

Metafilter: a mirror or two and some more bananas.

He's awesome.

He needs more training to develop his breath to support his voice, at least if he wants to keep up the Gaga-esque singing and dancing at once. I hope his parents hear this and bully him into developing his voice, so that he could be even more awesome.

Can you guys get into different pop music please? I'm sick of this gaga stuff all over the place.

Well, get on it.

From what I have seen of today's kids, jelly bracelets are back in a big way.

Psh. I'm pretty sure those are Silly Bandz, Grampa. Totally different.

Is there a German term for a profound, visceral reaction of vicarious embarrassment?

Evidently, there is a word for vicarious embarrassment: frendschämen.

I didn't experience any frendschämen as a result of this video, as much as it filled me with torschlusspanik, which I mean not in the 'where-is-the-nearest-exit' sense, but in the good-god-I've-suddenly-been-forced-to-realize-that-I-am-an-old-man sense.

It comes up around here, often.

Is this the thread where a bunch of adults get to make fun of a kid being awesome and having fun?
posted by Nelson at 3:42 PM on March 9, 2011 [4 favorites]

Seconding Nelson.

I don't know why anyone would be embarrassed on his behalf. It's hard to deny that kid can actually sing. He may not be nuanced yet and he needs to learn some control, but he can actually sing. At what are you aiming your destructive and judgemental snark, exactly? Would anyone else here have had the balls at that age to do what he's doing and post it for all the world to see?

It's Bobby Hill in human form! I want to steal him and raise him as my own...and teach him some better music.

Hey Timmy, you're all right!

Keep on doing what you enjoy - as long as it makes you happy and as long as you aren't hurting anyone or yourself, then don't let anyone stop you!

He owns it enough to sell it.

Really, I think he sold me on this song, whereas Gaga didn't.

And for those feeling vicarious embarrassment, what exactly is there to be embarrassed about?

and my sympathy alights anew for all the poor souls being forced to read threads they have no interest in. it makes me grateful for the apparently rare opportunity to fully customize my media options.

seriously, i have a kind of vague, peripheral awareness that some shit is going on with charlie sheen, but i have no interest in hearing about charlie sheen, and yet, miraculously, i don't know the first thing about what has happened to charlie sheen. and i didn't even have to try.
