Cute, but there needs to be more than just a cover. C'mon, at least an inside panel or two... posted by lekvar at 12:08 PM on March 16, 2011 [2 favorites]
Sort of interesting but I'd rather see Jack Chick's My Little Pony. posted by tommasz at 12:13 PM on March 16, 2011 [1 favorite]
maybe this will tide you over, lekvar. posted by Greg_Ace at 12:14 PM on March 16, 2011

My Little Pony gathers weirdness into its orbit like Saturn gathers moons. Did you celebrate DerpyDay? posted by Wolfdog at 12:23 PM on March 16, 2011

Could I see one of these for The Smurfs, please? posted by KingEdRa at 12:26 PM on March 16, 2011
The thread title is, of course, shamelessly stolen from a tweet Chris Sim. Made a while back. Sims (WHO LOVES METAFILTER) appears to be even more obsessed with MLP than we are. posted by Artw at 1:04 PM on March 16, 2011
WOW - League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: 1988.
I would forgo a week of lunch to buy that. posted by porpoise at 1:07 PM on March 16, 2011
That is so cool. And what makes it funnier is this would not have been out of line at all for late Kirby, when he was taking a half dozen assignments at a time and Cosmifying whatever the editors at Marvel had left over on their desks. An adaption of the movie 2001 that doesn't use any of the characters from the movie? Sure, why not. A series about a bright red dinosaur and his simpleton homo sapien sidekick? Rock on, baby. Jack Kirby's My Little Pony? Totally possible. posted by Kevin Street at 2:09 PM on March 16, 2011 [4 favorites]
Thomas Scioli also draws the awesomely Kirby-like Gødland, written by Joe Casey. It's Kirby dots from Panel 1! posted by Artw at 2:15 PM on March 16, 2011 [2 favorites]
Not at all out of the realm of possibility, given the existence of this. Also, WRT the other covers, I have no use for Ted Nugent in any form, but I would dearly love to see Batman and Motörhead team up. posted by Halloween Jack at 3:29 PM on March 16, 2011 [2 favorites]
I think that might be a photoshop, Halloween Jack. But given the existence of characters like Goody Rickels, it's impossible to say for certain. posted by Kevin Street at 3:38 PM on March 16, 2011
I don't even read comics any more but I love Chris Sims almost as much as Chris Sims loves Batman. The Smallville recaps are a hoot. posted by Lovecraft In Brooklyn at 5:17 PM on March 16, 2011
It's the real thing, Kevin. Kirby was employed by Ruby-Spears in the 80s in what was essentially a sinecure--he worked up concepts for Ruby-Spears that he was paid for whether they were used or not. Here's a previous Artw Kirby post that showed some of the more polished (i.e. inked and colored) efforts. The Mr. T thing was along those lines. posted by Halloween Jack at 7:30 PM on March 16, 2011
I demand a new My Little Pony post every week. Thanks, Artw.
