My girl friends and I wondered just what secret the boys shared that helped them to make noises that we couldn't.

So as this is Metafilter, and Metafilter is by definition a boyzone, and therefore all content involving women must eventually focus on resolving the fundamental question, "How does this make these women, or women in general, more attractive to men?":
<boyzone>
I have to say that after watching all the clips, the women who really committed- who made enthusiastic gun sounds, who added in the hand motions and acting, as opposed to those who simply said "Pow."- well, those women were markedly more attractive.

For example, after disinterestedly watching Sandra, Katie, and Monika, I got to Caroline (or Lucy, or Ali) and my reaction after the video was "Now that's the kind of woman a guy would want to date!"
</boyzone>
Discuss.

Possible reasons:

02. guys like girls who aren't afraid to be goofy and make gun noises on camera for the lulz of all involved

03. something something correlation between guns and penises something

Conversation I just had with my husband:
Me: Make your gun noises for me.
Him: Oh geez... I don't know, it's been years...[makes incredibly awesome rapid-fire sound affect]
Me: See, how did you learn to make that noise? I can't do it!
Him: Of course you can. Like this: [rapid-fire]
Me: Bupthhsthhh
Him: [rapid-fire]
Me: pupuhhhhhh[slobber]
Him: Nice. [perfect whistling shell explosion noise]

As kids, my girl friends and I would sometimes have violent games full of murder and drama, but we didn't really play war games. I guess the boys picked up their gun noise skills just from sheer practice. There is a bit of a hurf-durf-cute-girl quality to the videos, but they mostly just made me laugh because the girls suck at making gun noises just like I do.

Perhaps there's something about the whole thing about men liking when women subvert gender roles? It's like how if a woman rides a Harley Davidson, she's sexy and empowered, but if a guy chooses to be into fashion, say, he's laughable.

Patriarchy cuts both ways, etc.

Or maybe it's just a crude attempt at getting a meme to catch on to the internet, by simply collecting videos of something oddly specific and pointless. If that's the case, it's exactly like the women next to incapacitated cars, which is not a funny or interesting meme aside from a mere "LOL, look at the fetishists!" one time visit. It doesn't really lend itself to lasting creativity or comedy, the way FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU comics or LOLcats do (not for everyone, but a lot of people, enough to support communities and even some merchandise).

I just asked my wife to do this, in order to test the assertion that girls can't make gun sounds. She made some pretty credible machine gun and mortar noises, and then said 'but of course that's not what a gun would really sound like...' Whereupon she proceeded to yell directly into my ear so loudly that I was forced to retreat into the next room like a wounded animal.

Conclusions:

a) she does not approve of this thread and,
b) in future, these experiments should be subject to a health and safety review.

When competing as member of a scholastic rifle team, I frequently heard: isn't it sweet that a girl is shooting? How adorable. Bang-bang, huh, honey? Etc. This is a very tedious refrain: that combining sweet little girlies with firearms, even in an abstract way, is "cute." The fact that I consistently outscored my male counterparts was hollow comfort.
