This unicode table is handy for finding interesting glyphs

It's fun, but not very well organized or cross-referenced. E.g., as an exercise, try to find "=".

Or an invite to "+".

There's some small irony that the font doesn't display correctly so I'm getting random letters and symbols rather than the ones he's talking about.

I'm curious as to what the selection criteria were. It ranges from the rather mundane (most of them--the explanation of blackboard bold only makes sense to someone who knows what blackboard bold is) to some good trivia (the Halmos box or vinculum).

I personally get a kick out of the Comprehensive LaTeX Symbol List. It tells you not only that a symbol exists, but that you can LaTeX is (clearly the most important question).

Symbols like ∃, ∆ and ∧are great character-savers for twitter and identi.ca.

There's a great site called Sixty Symbols featuring "curious and quirky videos describing the various symbols used in physics and astronomy", "starring" faculty members at Nottingham University in the UK.
