I'm missing the riverbottom nightmare band

I knew there was going to be a Weezer track.

I just got done watching the 1994 "World of Jim Henson" documentary, and had no idea they were coming out with a new movie. I am psyched!

[also, here are a bunch of out-takes from "Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas."]

The "Emmet Otter" outtakes are required viewing for any muppet fan.

I read your post and I started to do that chittering/mumbling thing cats do when they see a bird nearby.

Muppets don't need these bands to make them cooler.

Here's some Riverbottom Nightmare Band for you. Maybe not quite the original. But somehow I think Chuck Stoat and Pop-Eyed Catfish would approve.

My favorite Muppet music collection (because Rowlf is my favorite Muppet), recorded by Jim Henson but released years after his death and out of print.

Well, at least this album will make money for Paul Williams. I hope they allow for the Andrew Bird track to be downloaded individually.

This is still my favorite Muppets record. But I would pay any money to hear Tom Waits sing It's Not Easy Bein' Green.

Or New York State of Mind.

Or You and I and George.

Why was he never on the Muppet Show?

First, no cover of Mahna Mahna beats Cake's. Second, if you cover one song from Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas, then that song had GOD DAMN WELL BETTER BE BARBECUE.

On the other hand, Lena Horne may have the definitive It's not easy bein' green.

Or Big Bird, but I can't really watch that one.

No, but these bands desperately need the Muppets.

A couple of "Hmm, that could be good" tracks and some "I'll have to wait and see" tracks.

However, the Fray and "Mahna Mahna" makes me die inside a little.

They got a lot of the nostalgia cues right in that trailer, but the Kermit seems wrong.
I like the Tshirt.

If you really like music and you really like Muppets, you might enjoy Muppet Musique.

I try to imagine Weezer's version of Rainbow Connection but it just comes out like Buddy Holly.

Someday well find it therainbowconnection, oo ee oo, and youre Mary Tyler Moore,

Incidentally, if Metafilter ever evolves/devolves into 100% Muppet-related FPPs, I would be okay with that.

Perhaps I need to find a fan site.

When you meet somebody that don't like soul food
They still got a soul
And it don't mean that you got no rhythm
If you don't like rock 'n roll
But if your tastes are like mine
You like whisky not wine
And your very favorite thing to do
Is get a perty girl dancin' to jug-band music
And a mess of mama's barbecue

Oops, meant to quote this in my above post.

seriously - not using cake's mahna, mahna and going with the fray instead makes absolutely no sense.

and, this is the best song performance to feature muppets.

"It deserves to share legendary status with Rudolph, Frosty, and Charlie Brown [holiday specials]"

*Squeal* I 100% agree. Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas is THE Best. I too watch it every Christmas.

"We're not birds. We're a jug-band!"

am i the only one that immediately suspected this to be a cash-grab from an increasingly unoriginal hollywood?

No, you are not. The post made me whistle the intro tune, but there's little chance of me buying any new album or watching any new movie, or even listening to the covers. Henson's dead, and it's a sad shame, but the Muppets are basically dead to me too.

I listened to about 15-20 seconds of the MMJ cover, and then watched Marilyn Sokol's original version on the Youtubes. Sublime.
