Attention all units, please respond to Central and Broadway, reference a large crowd. It's a war on drugs.
Just Say No: a music video featuring former Albuquerque sheriff Darren White. On vocals.

I don't think rock 'n' roll should do that.

That drum kit is not being used to its full potential.

That drum kit is not being used to its full potential.

Like the human brain, it never really is.

except for John Bonham, of course

I guess this is from the part of the 90s that was really just the inflamed appendix of the 80s.

Someone should get Sheriff Joe Arpaio to sing in a music video. It would be a total setup with the goal of doing a total hatchet job on the guy. Think "Bush Was Right" 2011.

well, i came to snark, and although darren's vocals aren't really up to it, that's a pretty damn good band he's got

And the nominees for Metafilter's Understatement of the Year cane now be closed. If rock and roll was Meryl Streep's normal body, this was the neck-turned-around-180-degrees-with-CGI broken form.

Hm. Post about drugs and Albuquerque, comment containing Bob Odenkirk clip...

I feel like there's something I should be remembering.

Like, say, tomorrow night.

On AMC.

How many people involved in the making of this music video were blazed out of their minds at the time? Somehow, I don't see how the answer can be anything other than "most of them."

May I suggest The Soft Serve Ice Cream Song [sample only] is perfect for Mefi's "Soft Serve on Crime" platform?

Hey, Rico said cops are all squares, but these guys seem like pretty hip dudes! Maybe I'll go down to the station later and we can rap about our feelings.

Go down to the station in Albuquerque or carry a plastic spoon and you will be shot.

This must have been shot when Darren was groovin' with the Albuquerque Police Dept. in 1990. Later, he became the Sheriff of Bernalillo County (there is no ABQ Sheriff) and; later still, a Congressional candidate.

This looks like a MTV/COPS video/public service Woodstock for kids. COPS was being filmed around ABQ a lot around this time (until the Mayor decided it wasn't such great advertising). Jeremy Jojola; an investigative reporter who works for the local NBC affiliate that has been pushing the story that stoneweaver referenced, is the youtube poster.

Both the police and fire departments gave votes of no confidence

The way that's worded, I wonder if that article is a hatchet job?

They mention the police voting no confidence in him in a prior post, specifically complaining about 'pay and politics', (which I presume is mostly pay.) They don't say when these votes supposedly happened, so it could potentially be a rephrasing of part of what they already said.

Dunno, but the structure of that story is strange, and could potentially be duplicitous.
