Entertainment Weekly's current (September 28, 2001) edition begins its story on the Internet in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in the United States with a paragraph stating that:

By 9:15 Tuesday morning, a link to a live webcam atop the Empire State Building with a clear view of lower Manhattan was posted on Dave Winer's Scripting News Weblog (scripting.com). And dozens of other daily log writers, including the all-encompasing Metafilter.com, compiled the highlights from U.S. and foreign news sources.

The article goes on to mention many other links to relevant online sites including kottke.org, thefineline.org/tflblog, and camworld.com. Apologies if this is a repost. I couldn't find it in recent days listings or search results.

Is the article online? Your link just goes to the front page of EW.

Nope. It doesn't look like EW publish the contents of their hard copy publication. Even more unfortunate is they don't appear to have any sort of computer/internet section at their online site at all.

rock on! let's start some damage!

Pat yourselves on the back. The blurb from Entertainment Weekly doesn't say it, but I'm going to - This is the best site on the web. Not as fancy as, say Classic Motown, as consumer friendly as Amazon.com, but filled with smart, witty, and humorous people, interacting in a manner that isn't rivaled anywhere else. OK... You can stop patting yourselves on the back now.

All I get on the EW site is their SQL statements used to build the page.

(ouch)...arm hurts...from congratulatory self-back-patting...

Kudos (again) to Matt for creating & hosting all of us -- with all of our liberal/insipid/reactionary/empty/inspiring/witty/trashy/insightful/wicked/objectivist/urbane/left-leaning/conservative/profound/dumb/zippity bop thoughts, feelings, comments, quirks, pancakes, and rants. How do you put up with all of us?

You guys & gals, all you posters out there, are all quite something, you know that? I appreciate you. Seriously.

I'm burned out from the gym and can't reach my own back.

But I congratulate the rest of you :)

I stayed away (with occasional lurking) for quite some time because I had enough other sites to suck my time away. But I finally saw the light...

Same as me, lotsofno. Anyone know why some sites do that in Opera? Though only other one I've seen is, I think, milive.com ...
