I'm going to do a post on "projects". Google Projects, Mefi Projects, MS Project, and the icing on the cake, which is Stile Project. posted by tumid dahlia at 3:34 PM on September 28, 2011 [14 favorites]

Spot, depicted in this animated GIF was a key character in TNG and a major part of Data's quest to be more human. Data's wonderful poem Ode to Spot nicely sums up their relationship on the show.
Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.
I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.
A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.
O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend. posted by Ad hominem at 4:56 PM on September 28, 2011 [3 favorites]
You know how you go to the grocery store, and end up in line behind a person who has a bag of grapes, a pint of ice cream, 2 quarts of oil, and a jar of vaseline, and you wonder what it was that they went to the store to get in the first place, and what jumped into their cart while they were there? This is Metafilter's version of that. posted by crunchland at 4:59 PM on September 28, 2011 [6 favorites]

I feel like we're already in the MeTa for this. For the record, the askew "???" look on my face upon hitting the last link was enough for my wife to come over and find out what perplexed me so.
Oh, and then she seemed to mouth the URL and run upstairs to her computer, but I'm sure that was just to do email or something. posted by cavalier at 7:29 PM on September 28, 2011 [2 favorites]
