I have an ex-boyfriend who's a puppeteer, so I've seen more than my share of googly eyes glued to weird things. Clearly I missed my opportunity to capitalize on this. posted by mykescipark at 3:58 PM on October 29, 2011

At a meetup a few years ago, someone (I think it was aubilenon) brought FSM cookies with googly eyes. They were excellent. posted by rtha at 4:33 PM on October 29, 2011

What about googly eyes with googly eyes on them? posted by Strange Interlude at 6:26 PM on October 29, 2011
'Round the time "The Dark" came out, I created a tournament deck, red and blue, and stuffed it full of big-mana monsters, and four mana-drains and counter-spells and anything else from Ice Age and the standard set that would let me buy time.
This was when the "fastbind" trick was popular... small, svelte decks based around putting as much mana on the table in a single turn as was possible, and funneling it into a single blast.
But the deal was, I'd always, always have at least two blue mana. And usually either a counterspell or mana-drain instant.
The best was mana-drain... you take their nineteen mana and pump it into a rock hydra or leviathan. Then they get enraged that you didn't roll over and die with your "loser" red and blue deck.
I was about to take my show on the road, but I got a job that wasn't comic-book store or movie theater related, and became interested in poker, and never found the time to be a Champeen M:TG pro.
Occasionally, I contemplate buying a box of starter sets and a box of whatever expansion set is out there now, and having another go at it.
Then I remember how awesome the Star Trek, illuminati and Vampire: The Jyhad card games were, and lose interest again.
The Star Trek game, especially - Away missions =and= massive space battles? Holy hell was that game fun... hard to find opponents with good decks, tho. posted by Slap*Happy at 6:37 PM on October 29, 2011 [1 favorite]
I was hoping to get a little nostalgia rush from the pokemon link but I don't think I recognized one of those pokemons (pokemans?). posted by addelburgh at 6:46 PM on October 29, 2011
I ditched my decks years ago to a friend because I could NOT find another player anywhere and staring at the card art only goes so far... posted by Samizdata at 6:54 PM on October 29, 2011
I totally played the Star Trek game... but mechanics wise, I always thought it was horrible. However, I played before they revamped the game and cleaned up the rules. posted by utsutsu at 8:00 PM on October 29, 2011

My 3-year-old LOVES that Caspar Babypants song
My 3 year old loves Magic cards, but I can't seem to convince him that spending 7 mana for a 6/6 with trample just isn't worth it outside of a draft. posted by Dr.Enormous at 6:38 AM on October 30, 2011
That explains why my coworker found it necessary to put googly eyes on my (sadly departed) air plant posted by bluesapphires at 8:29 AM on October 30, 2011
The best office prank I ever did was to googlize a coworkers desk. Which meant applying eyes of various sizes to everything. Phone, keyboard, mouse, computer screen, paper clips, stapler, pens/pencils, chair, walls, plant, ethernet cord, etc. It was sort of creepy when it was done since everything stared back at you. That was a few years ago and we still have some of those supplies floating around the office. Some new person won't know why their stapler has eyes, but they sure enjoy it. posted by msbutah at 9:25 AM on October 30, 2011

Dammit, I was going to make a comment using the astrological symbols for crescent and balsamic moon for googly eyes, but no browser I've found has a font that supports them. WHY FOR YOU HATE GOOGLY EYES FIREFOX/GOOGLE/MICROSOFT/APPLE?
For the record, the relevant symbols are:
