Yeah seem like a hell of a lot of work for a lame joke. Although yeah after reading longsleeves comment, yeah could be some SEO bullshit. Although Google will spell-check everything anyway so it won't work very well if it is.

I've become pretty cynical about that sort of thing - stuff that's only out there because someone thought it would make effective spam -- it's even worse when it's not even directed at a real person, but trying to exploit some glitch in an AI.

Not that much work if you come up with an auto-misspeller. (Which in itself can't be that hard. It's not like there's One Right Way to misspell.)

And I don't think it has to be SEO. Just a "learn to spell" search hit. If you search for "catle" you'll find Wikipeetia and some spelling tips. Nice.

As for "Google will spell-check everything anyway" a) not everyone uses Google and b) for those increasingly annoyed at Google "helpful" "correction" of spelling, there's now the option to turn that off, I believe.

Wait, what's with the learn how to spell game, complete with Facebook integration? Someone's having fun here...

I read a funny comment recently about companies whose clevrly spelled product name makes them ungoogleable. Imagine if Google rewrote "Flickr" to be "flicker", for instance.

"usally consisteng of swet fod" was my favorite thing I've ever heard, ever, for about 2 minutes, until I read "Meatlifter."

Thank you, mannequito, for enough laughter to purge a week of family-incited cold pricklies.
