The whole appeal of Bob Ross and his Happy Trees is the relaxed pace and soothing dialogue, though, not really the artwork itself. There are no mistakes, only happy accidents! posted by louche mustachio at 12:54 PM on January 16 [2 favorites]
Yes, but Ross was hypnotizing and blissful. This guy is frenetic so beyond the whole being able to bust out a landscape painting in short order, they really are in different worlds. posted by Burhanistan at 12:57 PM on January 16 [3 favorites]

I love Bob Ross. My teenagers love him too. He's like a parody of himself so you want to snark, but he's so sincere without being treacly, that watching and listening to him as he does his paintings just makes you feel good. 3 minutes is too short. "You can do anything you want to do. This is your world." Why would anyone want to rush that kind of sentiment?
My boys are also skaters, so Santa put these in their stockings this Christmas. Big hit. posted by headnsouth at 1:07 PM on January 16 [5 favorites]
I'm quietly amazed that a 30-year-old show (that is the complete opposite of today's overstimulated society) is still popular enough to be shown on one of PBS's channels every day. posted by Melismata at 1:30 PM on January 16 [1 favorite]
I was getting really nervous watching that and I had to turn it off. posted by Evstar at 1:52 PM on January 16
My friends and I were obsessed with Bob Ross in high school. We would slip his name into the morning announcements and/or have him paged over the intercom, alter posters and documents on the bulletin boards to reference him. We had a "gang" where we all took codenames based on his different preferred paint colors (I was Yellow Ochre). posted by stifford at 1:54 PM on January 16 [8 favorites]
I adore Bob Ross and watch his show whenever I can. I sent out Bob Ross holiday cards this year - talk about a huge hit! posted by tristeza at 3:26 PM on January 16

Gah, Chilean guy totally passes up the opportunity to extend the tree out of the frame every time. I am disappoint. posted by BrashTech at 4:10 PM on January 16 [1 favorite]
Bob Ross videos are my go-to, no fail, falling asleep solution. A few happy little trees, some scalp tingles later and.....I'm out. posted by jeanmari at 5:08 PM on January 16

It's still (or finally?) shown in Germany. Around midnight on educational channels mostly. posted by ZeroAmbition at 1:27 AM on January 17
