I actually made a quickly muffled squealing/squeaking type noise at my desk at this news. I'M SO HAPPY.

Also, for those concerned that it's still on 8, 30 Rock got similarly bad ratings at 8, so maybe NBC is aware now that it's just a shitty timeslot and they might as well count on the devoted fanbase rather than risk losing viewers with a timeslot change.

Yeah, I think that's mainly because they're competing with Big Bang Theory at the same time.

Because that's what you do when something you love is dying. Community can be wildly inconsistent quality wise, and when it's bad it can be horrifically so, but when it's on form it's one of the funniest and most inventive TV shows around.
posted by jaffacakerhubarb at 6:58 AM on February 22, 2012 [2 favorites]

Because we really love it? Also, I'd venture to say that the fact that it has lower ratings and is frequently on the verge of cancellation makes us Community fans even more defensive of it.

One of these days I'm going to sit down and watch Cougartown just so I can understand Abed. I don't think I'll be watching Cougarton Abbey, though -- wouldn't want to watch all my beloved characters die.

I know that in previous Community threads, people have posted recommendations for shows on here, so I thought I'd take this opportunity to plug a show I discovered very recently, right after I'd come very late to the study group of Community: Head Case starring Alexandra "Shmoopie" Wentworth as a totally insane therapist to the stars. It starts off as a more explicit, live-action version of Dr. Katz, but it starts to develop its own internal storylines that are awesome. Fair warning, though: it only had 3 seasons and ends mid-storyline, and I don't know if it will ever come back.

Just re-watched A Fistful of Paintballs/For a Few Paintballs More with my wife (who was watching them for the first time.) She didn't realize the first episode was the first of a two-parter; she took the trailer for the second part that runs at the end of the first part as a pure spoof of movie trailers, referring to events that would never be depicted, like the flashback episode referred to things that had never been depicted.

I love that that kind of mistake is imaginable.

I haven't seen anything about what he does or what the episode he's on is about... But that's because I rather pointedly haven't been looking.
