That yellow laser is part of an adaptive optics system. Astronomy tools are REALLY cool!

Reminds me of the feeling of lying down under the Milky Way -- looking up into the stars, and being reminded of how we're all part of the wider universe.

Off-topic, my astronomer SO also likes watching the bit of Quantum of Solace where they blow up the Paranal Observatory Residencia, so she can point at rooms where she's stayed as they explode.
