Monster's Den Chronicles

Monster's Den Chronicles is a turn-based Flash dungeon-crawler RPG with combat mechanics reminiscent of turn-based strategy game stalwart Disciples II.

Note that the author recommends increasing the Flash local storage settings in order to prevent problems with saved games.

Is this something that, if I click on it, I can forget about getting any work done today?

Well, I lost last weekend to it, so it's quite likely. The recent renaissance in dungeon crawler/rogue like games has been destroying me.

Anyway, this game is pretty damn solid. It takes a bit of time to get into, but it's very well designed. And for an RPG it's refreshingly difficult.

This looks really great and I'm staying well away from it.

Dudes? It's all just fuckin' dudes? Where's the ladies? I don't wanna play a guy. Fuck that. Seriously not even a single female character?

If memory serves me right, you could select male and female characters for each role -- there are little male and female icons.

I also remember it as being a difficult dungeon indeed, especially the boss fights on each level.

I've played earlier incarnations of the Monster's Den series; this looks really good. Although, like symboid, I'm looking for some female characters and trying to see what I might have overlooked that would have allowed gender selection.

Gah! How do I use items in combat? Or is that not possible?

I'm pretty sure you can't.

Well, that's a week's worth of billable hours down the tubes.

Bah/Hurrah.

Tip for those of you who, like me, thought you could just open the swf in a new tab so as to get the game nice and embiggened: you can, but if you close it you'll lose your save.

Losing 7 levels for each of 6 characters has now nicely put an end to any risk that I'd spend more time on that game.

Umm, yea I'm with subbes, was digging it until Firefox crashed (my fault, the game's) and I come back to no saved characters. Fool me once...

I've picked it back up with little trouble. I use a full screen flash add in for firefox and it helps a ton. The veteran difficulty is no joke, be prepared to back track and curse alot.
