Yes. So over the top, but love them. Hope one day to see a production! posted by typewriter at 6:14 PM on May 6, 2012

Thank you for this. I'd seen a picture of the set for A Masked Ball last year and could never find out where and what it was about. posted by calamari kid at 8:16 PM on May 6, 2012
Been there, absolutely amazing! posted by PigAlien at 8:17 PM on May 6, 2012
They're planning a similarly huge spectacle on Lake Zurich next summer (already selling tickets for August 2013!). It's one of those things where, if you get good weather, WOW! If not, it sucks to be you. posted by Goofyy at 11:03 PM on May 6, 2012
Goofyy: I can testify to that.
Saw the Aida in the link (the deconstructed State of Liberty). Rained like a motherfucker from start to finish. The storm was so terrible we were convinced they wouldn't start the show, and didn't turn up, only to have to rush in late when we heard the show starting from our hostel.
Fun experience but kitschy as hell. High on spectacle and expensive gimmicks, low on inspiration, authenticity and beauty. YMMV, and Aida is kind of a shitty opera admittedly. posted by dontjumplarry at 12:25 AM on May 7, 2012
Wow. I didn't think I would like this, but I did. posted by Joe in Australia at 1:06 AM on May 7, 2012
The visual is stunning. Jesus, heavy metal band festivals need these set designers. posted by jadepearl at 6:23 AM on May 7, 2012
