The Way They Were (SLYT... 1:07:45 'The tape fails there!')... an old Granada / Channel 4 program that was a compilation of Tony Wilson's So It Goes a show that featured performances from some of the best British Punk and New Wave bands of the time.

Of course nothing is less punk than to marvel at ancient history like this

You know the scene -- it's very humdrum,
Boredom!

There's something wryly humourous about Roger Daltrey, of all people, advertising American Express, at around 28 minutes.

Some wonderful things there I haven't seen before. Ta, fearfulsymmetry!

Nothing from Cramp?

Nuts.

Do you mean The Cramps? They were a New York band. You want the CBGB documentary, not this one which is all about UK bands.

Except for the Blondie performance, of course.

Oops! Didn't watch the whole hour before shooting off my mouth. From the tags it looks like there are a few other US acts in there (Devo, Jonathan Richman). But it's mostly UK ...

Yeah, that performance by The Jam is fantastic. Plus, I think this is the first time I've seen a live performance by XTC.

I think this is the first time I've seen a live performance by XTC.

There's not too many. There's one song on URGH! a Music War, & then a few scattered shows on videotape.

Rockpalast is one of the better things floating around out there. Dave Gregory is quite on fire on that one.

Oh! I am totally watching this tonight! Thanks! It has made my day!

Awesome so far. Going to have to come back to this.
Costello looks like a baby in that rare "Allison" clip, and it's cool to see him fuck up a few times.
And I've always thought that the Buzzcocks were completely infectious, genius hooky pop disguised with the surface affectations of Punk.
