Once in a blue moon. Not only will the full moon on Halloween be the first in 40(i think) and the last for another 19 years, it is also a 'blue moon' which means that the moon is full twice in the same month. Notwithstanding any MeFi visitors from Detroit, are you feeling strange yet?

Blue moon, you saw this standing alone
Without a comment inside
Without a post of its own

Blue moon, you knew just what I was there for
You saw me saying a prayer for
A link I really could care for.

"... are you feeling strange yet?"

Yeah, but that might just be the three cookies I had for dessert.

It just means we're gonna have another one of these little bastards to deal with.

Honey! Get the Raid! The Smurfs are in the cat's food again!

Yeah - but it depends on your point of time... to those of us on the East coast, the Full moon is at 12:41a Nov 1st...
Which means our blue moon is the 30th of Nov.

Sweet Mother Luna,
bright and bloated, queen of night,
makes my brain twitchy.

Halloween...

It's my birthday ... it's my birthday ... it's my birthday ...

As the article points out, west or east coast, it's actually not a blue moon by the original definition. The next blue moon using the original definition is actually in November 2002.

I was surfing at my desk late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
A website from the 'net began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise
(We did the mash)
We did the MeFi Mash
(We did the mash)
It was an A-list smash
(We did the mash)
It caught on in a flash
(We did the mash)
We did the MeFi Mash
From Pyra Labs in "The City" out west
To Germany, where the beer is best
The ghouls all came from their referral logs
To get a taste of community 'blog
CHORUS
The zombies were having fun,
The party was kickin',
The guests included Zeldman,
Stavros and his chicken
The scene was rocking,
All were digging the words
Scott Andrew sang with his Walkingbirds
Even PatMcGroin put in his quackin'
But we ganged up and sent his ass packin'
CHORUS
Out from his coffin Mathowie's voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
People always ask when the site is off kilter
"Whatever happened to the Meta? The Filter?"
CHORUS
Now everything's cool, Matt's paying his rent
The threads are replete with concord and dissent
For you, the newbies, MeFi was meant too
When you reach the front page tell 'em SA sent you
CHORUS

The closest we have come in a while is a full moon on Friday, October 13 in the 80's sometime...I forget what year...

Donkeysuck: For what it's worth, I was praising your post.

liam: for what it is worth, if i am dumb enough to not know that the world is round and everyone sees a different moon at different times, then you should have been ridiculing me. i'm sure the other kids will do it for you though.

No apologies necessary.

Starvingartist, that totally rocked. I hereby nominate you as the official MeFi song-parody artist. Do I hear a second?

We're assembling quite a collection of MeFi tunes.

If they are, they're not the only ones.

Duh. If the moon is full on October 31st then of course it's the second full moon of the month, and hence a Blue Moon.

Try to show me a month with a full moon on the last day that's not the second one of the month and I'll show you a very rare non-leap February.

OK, I _really_ want to go to the Winchester Mystery House for a combo full-moon/Halloween midnight tour!

kfury -- er, no.

A Blue moon is the Fourth full moon in a season, not the second in a month. So says a link above. Ah, well.
