That cub's face doesn't look like a baby but like a tiny little man.

Also, that little dog is a jerk. I hope the tiger hands out some manners after a bit of growing. Geeze!

That is super cool, but why is this kitty in the house? This is an outdoor kitty.

1) From the comments on Youtube:

2 years later.
Tiger "Yo chihuahua, remember this video?"
Dog "Yeah man, it was good times"
Tiger "Yeah man. You hurt my nose quite a bit though."
Dog "What? We were just playing. Be cool, we were just messing around, right?"
Tiger "Haha yeah." OM NOM NOM.

2) Neither one of those animals made a sound. No growling, no hissing, no meowing (do tigers meow?)

3) I would like a baby tiger for Christmas, kthx.

I lived in a suburb with a large zoo that had Amur (Siberian) tigers. There was a guy in the neighborhood that worked in said zoo. Oh, did he have tiger stories. So one thing that the dog needs to realize its all fun and games until the cat turns about six months old. Then their level of play involves blood. My neighbor said people will get in a lion, cougar, or wolf enclosure without fear. No one in their right mind, even the people that raised them by hand, would ever get anywhere near a tiger that wasn't tranked. They are the epitome of "doesn't play well with others.".

And now I have to show this video to my wife. She'll squee and want to have one. I'll remind her she's got 5 Maine Coons and doesn't need a 6th hyper-intelligent big cat.

One of my favorite wild-kitty videos is this one. I would just love to have little lion cubs climbing all over me like this. *sigh*

When my cat fails to jump all the way onto the couch, he backs up and tries again (he's old and arthritic, that's his excuse for the original failure). I love how this little dude just hangs on with his claws and hauls himself up over the armrest on his belly.

There are two big problems with this video.

1. Where did the tiger cub come from? Probably poachers, who probably shot the mother in order to capture the cubs.

2. Where is this tiger going to end up? In a few months it won't be safe, and then the owners are going to try to find a zoo somewhere to take it. But cubs raised this way don't end up being very good exhibit animals.

So, yeah, the cub is cute. But it's revealing a whole lot of ugliness. Tiger cubs are cute, but tigers think of humans as prey.

Agree with Chocolate Pickle. After visiting the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Indiana last month, this kinda video is a lot less adorable. A pretty disgusting number of their animals were ones raised as pets which the owners then had to give up due to changes in licensing, neighbors getting (understandably!) upset, or the discovery of animals housed in inhumane ways by various local agencies. Cute cat videos are cute, but when you see a bunch of tigers blind from inbreeding in an attempt to breed white siberians and the like, it gets a lot less aww-inducing.

But ... you can't just own a tiger, can you?

I also am wondering why those people have a tiger cub. Not as quick to jump to conclusions, and would like to know if this video is associated with a zoo breeding-program, or a rescue organization of some sort. I believe that I hear animal noises in the background.

(In fact, the tiger in HuronBob's link looks like a golden tabby, which from what they told us at the rescue only come about due to inbreeding, usually in attempt to get white tigers. Blegh.)

That cub deserves a better playmate. That nippy bitey little rat of a chihuahua deserves a 100yd punt.

Ber, you have 5 Maine Coons? That's 100 pounds of cat! I'm sure you've contracted a service to drop off a fresh crate of lint rollers every morning but sleeping must be interesting with all those giant heat-seekers shoving you around the bed.

Let's find out! A little bit of nosing around YouTube reveals this channel as the likely original uploader. (additional cuteness) The channel owner says in the comments of another video that the clips are taken in Maringa in Brazil and that "these tigers belongs to my friend. he has 14 animals at all.....10 tigers and 4 lions...more or less". A bit of Googling of video titles leads us to some news items which suggest that the video was taken at 'Canil Emanuel' aka 'Instituto Emanuel', owned by Ary Marcos Borges. It's not clear which of their animals is in the video.

Instituto Emanuel became famous last year when one of their lions became paralysed and died, but not before becoming a Facebook star. However, there was some criticism of the Institute, which apparently breeds big cats, dogs & domestic cats and rents them out. There also seems to have been some legal trouble, possibly connected to operating as an unlicensed zoo? (All this info is via Google Translate and I would love a proficient reader of Portuguese to check it) Canil Emanuel's website appears to be down, but it's hard to research Brazilian news online these days, so I can't find anything more about that.

Oh, and my searching turned up some additional pics from the institute on Flickr, Facebook and videos on YouTube.

Didn't Metafilter users use to track this sort of thing down as a matter of course? I blame the walled garden generation and their locked-away Facebooking, attribution-free Tumblring and web-as-an-afterthought-still-no-RSS Intstagramming, which I'm sure is terribly upsetting for them as they party their way through their youth.
