Nope, completely eponyxplainable. I was just referring to my favorite WTF moment in the film, when a member of Kaneda's gang suddenly vomits blood for no reason (actual frame-grab from TVTropes), and the scene just continues on as normal.

At the 2011 Dragon*Con, I got a chance to view Joe Peacock's collection of Akira cels, production art, and promotional material, as well as attend the screening with commentary that he gave. The amount of detail that went into every frame of that film is staggering. If you're ever somewhere where Joe's collection is on display, do not pass it up.

That bike'll chew you up and spit out the seeds, sport.

At $121,000/7 years = $17,285 per year, it certainly chewed up a fair amount of disposable income!

That bike was at the Otomo Katsuhiro GENGA exhibition in Tokyo in the spring! The bike was set up in the final room of the exhibit, and if you made a donation to an earthquake relief charity you could sit on it and pretend to be badass.

Completely worth the day trip up from Osaka just to sit on that bike.

I just realized recently that the only way you can make a live action american version of AKIRA is if Tetsuo, Kaneda et al are black and the bikes are motorcross.
