Ceramic double-rotor two-wheel drive... Man! It even has computer-controlled antilock brakes! Twelve thousand RPMs! posted by Sokka shot first at 7:46 PM on December 9, 2012 [5 favorites]
A strange interlude, indeed! *cough* I mean, eponysterical?
Nope, completely eponyxplainable. I was just referring to my favorite WTF moment in the film, when a member of Kaneda's gang suddenly vomits blood for no reason (actual frame-grab from TVTropes), and the scene just continues on as normal. posted by Strange Interlude at 7:58 PM on December 9, 2012 [1 favorite]
Are you talking about the scene that came directly after the one where the gang caught a beating? posted by P.o.B. at 8:45 PM on December 9, 2012 [1 favorite]
At the 2011 Dragon*Con, I got a chance to view Joe Peacock's collection of Akira cels, production art, and promotional material, as well as attend the screening with commentary that he gave. The amount of detail that went into every frame of that film is staggering. If you're ever somewhere where Joe's collection is on display, do not pass it up. posted by radwolf76 at 9:33 PM on December 9, 2012 [1 favorite]

That bike'll chew you up and spit out the seeds, sport.
At $121,000/7 years = $17,285 per year, it certainly chewed up a fair amount of disposable income! posted by asok at 2:17 AM on December 10, 2012
That bike was at the Otomo Katsuhiro GENGA exhibition in Tokyo in the spring! The bike was set up in the final room of the exhibit, and if you made a donation to an earthquake relief charity you could sit on it and pretend to be badass.
Completely worth the day trip up from Osaka just to sit on that bike. posted by emmling at 5:39 AM on December 10, 2012 [1 favorite]
