When I was at my parents' house at Christmas I put my puppy on their storage platform treadmill. My dog was not having any of it. He wouldn't get on, he wouldn't walk with me, he just absolutely refused to comply.
PS, that link I posted was a repost of an FPP I did from almost 13 years ago. Sweatin' to the oldies I guess. posted by stupidsexyFlanders at 10:48 AM on February 15
And...now I'm searching for the entire animal kingdom in the act of treadmillin'. The hits so far: horse shrimp (with appropriate music) turtle
The stoicism of the Jack Russell on the left in the "dogs" link is monumental.
They are great, but the "cats" cat is the best. S/he looks so determined until running out of steam, when bewilderment takes over. posted by GenjiandProust at 10:50 AM on February 15 [1 favorite]
My dog was not having any of it.
And just because I have a video of how hilarious it was: he also didn't much care for swimming. posted by phunniemee at 10:52 AM on February 15
Cats always look so dumb when they paw at things (I say this with deepest affection) and I think it's partly because it always looks like they used to have more articulate hands and then they were replaced with the little club-like things they've got now and they still haven't quite come to terms with the transition. posted by invitapriore at 10:54 AM on February 15 [4 favorites]
I guess a dedicated dog treadmill can actually be a reasonable thing to have if you live in an apartment, but otherwise I have to admit that it lies a little far on the Westminster Dog Show side of the pampering scale from my perspective. posted by invitapriore at 10:58 AM on February 15
I'm pretty sure I've seen video of a Fly treadmill. They glue the Fly's back to a pin and suspend it so the Fly's feet can't touch the ground, then flash LEDs in sequence around the fly to give the illusion of motion. posted by Ad hominem at 11:04 AM on February 15
The guy in the "a" video of cats really, really should have vacuumed his floors before filming. posted by xingcat at 11:41 AM on February 15
Now show me an emu on a rowing machine, and an alpaca on a stair-climber. posted by blue_beetle at 11:45 AM on February 15 [5 favorites]
Not to nitpick, but these are not "dogs on a treadmill," they are "dogs on a (variety of) treadmills.
I thought that as well, but every single video seems to be multiple dogs on a single treadmill. Why dogs go on treadmills at all is unknown, but why they go in groups is a deeper mystery. posted by ricochet biscuit at 11:51 AM on February 15
Oh hey, it's the hard drive I ordered online, padded with a single polish sausage-sized balloon. posted by jamaro at 1:18 PM on February 15 [1 favorite]
I think the best part about dogs is how dumb they are, and how they can do insanely stupid shit and you can just laugh and laugh and laugh and they still love you.
And then, right when your defenses are down, they figure out a way to eat all your mail even when you put it up somewhere high. posted by phunniemee at 1:37 PM on February 15 [2 favorites]
ceribus: a youtube comment noted that one should never allow their dog on an escalator as their feet can get trapped (and then mangled); the commenter saw such a thing, apparently.
(I've never felt compelled to repeat a youtube comment. but there it is). posted by el io at 1:33 AM on February 16
The slinky on a treadmill was missing the Eye of the Tiger background music, but was still inspiring. posted by waving at 5:24 AM on February 16
Self-link: sled dogs exercising.
I love that they can just hop up and get some rest, shade, water if they don't feel like running. The owners said that more often they have to lock the thing in place because the dogs ALWAYS want to run. I suggested they hook this up to a generator. posted by zoinks at 7:25 PM on February 16

OK, I totally meant to nitpick.
The dogs are cute, I mean, but grammar is king!
