unexpected encounter

Jimi Hendrix and Dusty Springfield’s duet of “Mockingbird,” the soul/novelty number originally made famous by by Inez and Charlie Foxx in 1963, hasn’t surfaced in decent quality yet, and maybe it never will, so savor this admittedly murky peek at it, apparently taken from a super-8 camera pointed at a TV screen when it originally would have aired in 1968.

Like most men, sometimes I regret not being Jimmy Hendrix

It's Jimi, NOT Jimmy. And of course, let's not forget the well-known Carly Simon - James Taylor live remake from the seventies at the No Nukes concert..

Well, I wouldn't want to have been him. His childhood (and some of his adult life) sure sucked.

Cool. I had forgotten that Super 8 had a sound option!

In fact, both Super 8 and Regular 8 were designed for the addition of a magnetic optical strip.

What's with the jimihendrix/jimihendix tagging, flapjax? Some hidden significance I'm missing out on?

Sound/audio are clearly not from the same source here. The audio is continuous while the video is fragmentary and, apart from the clips of Jimi and Dusty together, not even obviously from the same performance.

I think the definitive version was Aretha's.

That Aretha video sent me snooping round the nets for info on her partner at the piano. Here he is, Ray Johnson.

This is the definitive version.

Wow. Thanks for reminding me how much I hate Jim Carrey.
