Les disques africains collects, rips, and uploads out-of-print records (and their sleeves!) from the golden age of vinyl in francophone Africa. Don't miss la belle chanteuse Sali Sidibé, psychedelic grooves from Benin, or this incredible 35-minute oral-musical history of Bobo-Dioulasso. New posts appear, as if by some rare magic, every three to four days.

Lord have mercy. I just clicked on a random thing and it was crazy awesome, and beyond obscure. Now working through the soukous entries. I might just throw away all my records and listen to this from now on.

Awesome Tapes From Africa had an FPP back in 2007, so it seems worth mentioning in this thread for everyone who might have missed it. One excellent blog in an FPP deserves another.

Good point, Going To Maine. Reminds me to bump Sahel Sounds (previously) and their incredible Music from Saharan Cellphones compilations.

<derail> On revisiting the Sahel blog I found this incredible post - An Open Letter To Homeland Security - a magnificent and articulate takedown of security screening </derail>

This is amazing. Thank you for posting it! If you're interested in a slightly more modern take (but still often bringing in a lot of tracks from the 1970s to 1980s), you might like the Africa In Your Earbuds series of podcasts/mixes...

Sometimes I don't know whether I'm more grateful to Joe Strummer for his work with the Clash or for opening my eyes to all this stuff when he had his show on the BBC World Service.
