Objection! Some of them have things on their shoulders, not their heads.

So, Finland is trying to take the "Oddest Scandinavian Country" title from Iceland?

Sorry, Finland, but Bjork.

This is the nicest thing I've seen in ages.

This is way better than my Tumblr idea, Young Belgians with Things up Their Asses. At least I can show this to my mom.

I totally get the Iceland wins the weird because Bjork, argument, but you can't dismiss Finland so lightly. While it is true that Bjork has the highest per-individual weirdness quotient of any placental mammal, Finland has a wider, broader, more ecologically diverse selection. It's deeper rooted, more normative: while Bjork is a mutant who has sucked every last grain of weirdness out of her fellow Icelanders - who are thus the most normal, the sanest, the most generally quietly content in a very pleasant but not even slightly weird way, people on the planet, in Finland...

Well. Four off the top of my head.

Leningrad Cowboys. Lordi. Hevisaurus (Imagine the Wombles. As Iron Maiden. Dressed as dinosaurs. For the kiddies. Yes. that Hevisaurus.) And then, this, which I apologise for presenting on the blue, because you will, like me, ask why, and there will be no answer. But the hideousjaunti will stick like glue, until it hardens to a cold obsidian shell which will coat your soul until the end of time.

I have no idea how these old Finnish people got things put on their heads or why ...

I love the deadpan-yet-quietly-dignified expressions.

Finland, Finland, Finland
The country where I quite want to be
Your mountains so lofty
Your treetops so tall
Finland, Finland, Finland
Finland has it all, Finland has it all.

I thought I'd see what Google Translate had to say about Devonian's "Pomppufiilis". The target language was initially French, so the translation given was "Le Sentiment Gonflable". It was just such a nice phrase that I thought I'd share it with you all.

Finland is not in Scandinavia nor is Finnish Scandinavian language, thus Finland will not take the Oddest Scandinavian Country title. Oddest Nordic Country is much more inclusive and prestigious.

Dammit, now I'll be singing "Pomppufiilis" all day. Again.

Not to denigrate the special genius for weirdness that Finland has, but I do know this Icelandic lady, and... let's just say Bjork's work is not yet done.

And nekked in the swamp with big leaves.
