Philomena Cunk is one of my favourite characters. There's a bit from 2012 Wipe that's probably my favourite.

Too close to the bone for me, though.

She called it, "it'll probably happen next year".

Maybe I'm just reading too much into her performance but it seems like she even walks like she doesn't really grasp walking and is kind of faking her way through it.

Her Professor Brian Cox impression is spot on.

I had been burned on Charlie Brooker related stuff recently, but I guess it's time to hop back on this horse.

At that time of the night, when questions rally in an open mind.

Questions like, how do I get time back out of my watch?

What I want to know is how does Charlie Brooker get to produce so many shows when he didn't go to Oxford or Cambridge? Did they at least send him to some kind of remedial BBC ruling class camp to shine shoes for upperclassmen and do bad musical comedy about pudding and Shakespeare before they let him in the club?

"Every day that's ever happened starts exactly here, coming out of that time transmitter and running along this metal line on the ground. That's why this is the only place in the world where I can be in the past and the future with the present running right up through my middle bits."

Yeah, I liked Cunk's Brian Cox impression when I saw it, but it felt too close in tone and content to Claudia O'Doherty's masterful take on the same subject to enjoy it without reservation.

I think the Brian Cox piece from the previous link is stronger because it does more than one thing; some of the real hilarity is in its affectionate but very effectively on-target jabs at Cox as well. While Philomena Cunk is a perfect distillation of that inescapable enemy of all that is good, the stupid person who doesn't know they're stupid (Tina Fey's version of Sarah Palin comes very close, though it's easier pickings for her because by her own admission half the time she's simply quoting verbatim) in itself it's not enough. So while I enjoyed this I hope it doesn't become a regular thing as such... her bits are at their best when she isn't the only thing being poked fun at.

Also, I'm glad to see that Charlie Brooker is writing for the Grauniad again.

Cunk's Brian Cox impression annoyed me and was done better on youtube 2 years ago. Plus Brian Cox is awesome and personally I don't think he needs any jabs but instead a pat on the back for inspiring people with science.
