I just came here to tell everyone to read Gilead. That is all.

edeezy,

Her other novels are set in the same setting. A companion to Gilead, Home is an independent novel that takes place concurrently. At least for me, she evokes Faulkner in this way. Definitely worth picking up her other novels.

Also, read her essays.

Obscure Reference,

My first introduction to her was through her essays then followed up by Gilead. And while I found Gilead to be a bit slow, it matched the tone of the novel. Her language is so rich and poetic.

Gilead and Home have the same setting, but it is very different from the setting for Housekeeping.
