Healing Games? NBC announces "that if things go well at the Salt Lake City Olympics, then these could be America's 'healing Games.' Plus, NBC stands to make a lot of money."

"Things go well"? Does that mean no teror attack or they make the bundle of money?

Postroad, I'll take the former, thankyouverymuch.

Is it just me or does the punctuation of the FPP significantly alter the meaning of the phrase quoted from the article? The quotation marks as used in the FPP make it seem that NBC directly stated the words within them, which they did not. Yes, they made a reference to the Olympics as the "healing games" and, yes, later in the article they claimed that they felt they would make a profit on ad revenues. Big deal, that's their job! Besides the phrase "healing games" everything else in quotes was fabricated by the writer of the article, not a direct statement by NBC. Not being snarky, just pointing it out.

And anywho, I hope they make tons of money so that they are inclined to do it again and do it better. When I hear things like "CNBC, meanwhile, will become The Hockey Channel from 3-9 p.m. with wall-to-wall live games" I don't really care how much money they make because they've got my attention! It'll beat the hell out of turning on CNBC and watching endless neutral zone traps and badly executed dump and runs in Congress!

I shudder to think what NBC will do with these games. After the summer games with the mind numbingly repetitive 'triumph over adversity' bio pieces I think I will just watch some rock'em sock'em hockey video tapes instead.

Srboivert: Yes! Rock'Em Sock'Em! I think in that one he raves about how Dougie Gilmour is the best player in the league (1994 that is). Good times.

And the two Billion Dollar taxpayer dollars will be well spent, because we will all be healed and have beaten the terrorists, and...

Don't worry about safety at the Olympics, folks. MeFi's own JakeEXTREME is among the National Guardsmen keeping Utah safe. If the terrorists do attack, he'll fend them off with a lethally snarky post...

i was sitting here thinking just how awful sitting through the coverage was going to be, watching lame up close and personal montages filled with tacked on morality plays to generate a 'compelling story', when all i want to do is see the competitions.

and then i remembered. i have tivo.
