His "haul" of free stuff was 1 delivery pizza and one meal (i.e a first date where the other guy pays) at a burger restaurant, hardly diamonds. Was this just a tragic article about someone who does not understand Grindr or just a terrible article by someone who fails at even being a terrible person? I presume, given that they have actually run the story that the girl who comes next is going to do a lot better and the angle is going to be "ha ha look at the desperate lonely nice guys" which is what it is but see Slate Star Codex's provocative Radicalizing the Romanceless.

Well yeah... this article would have been totally different if, for example, he were conventionally mainstream gay attractive (which is basically white, young, pretty--he describes himself as short and brown). Still, I thought it was interesting.

That's not the free stuff you're supposed to use grindr for.

Have to say I missed that bit (though it doesn't much change my view). I noticed the photo at the top had a disclaimer saying it wasn't the article subject, but I assumed that was a nod nod wink wink that it actually was that guy.

The lonely fat girl inside of me squealed: "Could this be the one?"

This is a shitty thing to say.

Ahhh, whip out the ol' sock puppet for this one.

I tend to prefer older guys (I'm in my early thirties, I like guys in their forties but my 'limit' is waaaay higher). I'm not gonna lie- dating is a lot easier when your date pays for dinner every time, owns his own house instead of living with roommates, etc. etc. I also tend to be the better-looking partner in general so even when I date guys in my own age range- younger, even- I tend to get dates paid for. This is extremely helpful because I'm not swimming in money.

But to use people to get stuff is so extremely shady. I'm out there looking for a relationship-- if a guy is comfortable spending money on me because he finds me handsome and charming, then I'm not going to turn that down out of a pretend sense of honor.

This article is stupid. I'd bother to take it apart for how offensive it is, but that would require caring more about Vice and this stupid article than I can bother.

I will say I enjoyed the bit where he says "Mature Grindr users, it turns out, are not that easily used." Stupid jackass.

Was this an innuendo? I never had the opportunity to find out.
This stupid joke is old as [insert generation eye roll]
