They should've called themselves "West Wings" ...

West Wing fans might really enjoy Alpha House, an Amazon Prime comedy written by Garry Trudeau (Doonesbury) about four Republican Senators sharing a house in DC.

Janelle Maloney (Donna Moss) has a recurring role starting in season two as a hilariously batshit insane Tea Party Republican Senator. That character has had me in stitches at almost every appearance, but halfway through the season she's at the same table as another beleagured Senator played by Bradley Whitford (Josh).

If you ever wanted to see the steamrolling attitude reversed just for once, Alpha House provides, and it's brief but glorious.

No one -- anywhere, anytime, in any universe -- should sing Wonderful Christmastime.

Oh come on, I'm Jewish, and I thought this was delightful. Sing it, First Lady Rizzo.

It makes me smile just imagining Jed, Abbie, and Leo having a nice little Christmas Carol moment together. (And I'm on record as hating pretty much everything holiday related.)

This also led me down a rabbit hole of West Wing clips on YouTube, and then I found myself re-watching the Season 2 Finale, Two Cathedrals, which is just such a great episode of TV. (Also, somewhere in there I baked some cookies...)

This was a great show with some really great characters. It's such a shame that we lost John Spencer way too soon.

I managed to find this as well.

It's weird how some people have aged/changed a lot (Bradley Whitford, is that you???) and others not so much.

It turns out there have been TWO reunion walk-and-talks. I didn't know about the second one!

Also, behind the scenes

Also also, I didn't realize I missed Carol until just now. Carol is awesome.

This is such a Jed Bartlett moment: "Friends, in the time of Socrates, philosopher kings would walk 'round and 'round the parthenon..."

Only for this group of people would I voluntarily listen to this song, and love every second of it.

This is a great Leo and Jed moment.

And here is the always classic clip of Jed Bartlett chewing out God in Latin.

And because it's almost Thanksgiving, President Bartlet calling the Butterball Hotline

And lastly, everyone playing poker.

Okay, I'm stepping away from YouTube now.

Oh god, the end of that Walk & Talk sketch, where Charlie gets a Bartlet Flip to the face.

Even if you don't have Prime, the whole (a whole) season is just a sawbuck. It is great and the whole cast is terrific, even the discoveries. (And if you've spent much of the last decade seething at Republicans, it's a pleasure to think of some (fictional) Republicans affectionately again.) The humor is very often in the vein of a Doonesbury strip, and there's even a character who spends much of her time squawking out of a conference call speaker.

And speaking of Bradley Whitford, he's also a recurring character on Transparent, the Amazon series that's getting a lot more (deserved) attention.

Too bad none of them can sing, and the music played behind them is so lame.

I keep listening to this and I'm trying to figure out if a) Martin Sheen only sings occasionally and b) in the same register as Stockard Channing.

Too bad none of them can sing, and the music played behind them is so lame.

As far as I am concerned, those are the two things that make this amazing. Plus the goofy "conversation" at the beginning.
