I might as well do this one too

The 2014 Grammy nominations -- save for album of the year, which will be announced tonight on a CBS "Very Grammy Christmas" special -- were announced today. Familiar names are in all the top spots, including Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Iggy Azalea and Pharrell Williams. Best new artist nominees are Azalea, Sam Smith, Haim, Bastille and Brandy Clark.

From CNN: The Grammys tried something new this year. Instead of releasing all the nominations at once, the Recording Academy put them out in dribs and drabs: a handful on CBS's "This Morning" and most of the others on Twitter, some through artist accounts.

Incredibly, the Grammys have found a new way to be even more annoying. They want people to tune in to an hourlong program just to find out what the Album of the Year nominees are? At least have the decency to be as interesting as LeBron.

Maybe next year, the official Grammys twitter account will provide livetweeting snark and mockery of the Grammys, like everyone else in my feed does. That would be pretty revolutionary.

What the hell is wrong with Iggy Azalea?

It should really get most of the awards. For this year.

Hari Kondabolu was robbed in Comedy. I would have dropped Gaffigan for what I think is the best comedy album of the year.

I would have dropped Sarah Silverman and Louis C.K. for Cameron Esposito and Hannibal Buress, but it's close among those four. It really should be Hari Kondabolu, with Patton turning in an awesome effort that just wasn't as transcendent as Hari's, and Weird Al getting a nomination just for turning in a perfectly acceptable Weird Al effort.

Looking at the Classical stuff, there's some good stuff in there. A Far Cry is a wonderful ensemble, but I have to admit that I haven't heard Dreams and Prayers yet. (Although their other new album this year, The Law of Mosaics is extraordinary.)

John Luther Adams' Become Ocean is certainly a worthy nominee for both new composition and new best engineered album.

Looking forward to listening to some of these other pieces and albums.

Congrats to Hozier, U2, and any of those jazz guys with Irish names.

The classical nominations do look interesting, and I'm gonna dig through them this weekend -- thanks for the post.

I'm just happy that the Okee Dokee Brothers got a nomination for Best Children's Album. Their album "Through the Woods" are songs that were inspired by, and written while, they hiked part of the Appalachian Trail, and it's great fun for kids and adults.

I'm happy to see Jhene Aiko, Marsha Ambrosius, Common, Robert Glasper and Sharon Jones in the R&B and rap categories. Early prediction: not one of them wins.

I'm also happy to see Bobby Hutcherson, Jason Moran and Archie Shepp in the jazz categories, and John Luther Adams in the classical ones.

And, hey, maybe Elizabeth Warren can follow in the footsteps of that other Grammy-winning politician.

Oh, also:

Who gives a fuck about a goddamn Grammy?--Public Enemy

You think I give a damn about a Grammy?--Eminem

I do like the weird-pairing live performances, though.

My favorite bit of Grammy trivia which shows how on top of the times the Grammies have been. Which won the 1966 Grammy for Contemporary Rock N Roll single? King of the Road.

I'm pleased to see Sturgill Simpson's Metamodern Sounds in Country Music get an album nomination, but despite tracks like "Life of Sin" and the word "Country" right in the goddamn title of the album, somehow it's not country music but "Americana," which I guess makes major Nashville labels happy. Whatever. Great album either way.

somehow it's not country music but "Americana,"

I sort of thought "Americana" was the current name for country for liberals.

I always feel old these days because I don't know things on the end-of-the-year lists, but I was pleasantly aware of a lot of stuff on the Grammy list in categories I listen to. This bodes less well for my tastes and more ill for the Grammy team, I think.

I always thought of it as country in tighter plaid.

One can only hope. I cannot stand that weird patois she uses in her songs and think she's thisshort of doing blackface.

All About That Bass being nominated for anything is a crime. Charli XCX should have gotten a Best New Artist nom, so I guess I'm rooting for HAIM. No Sam Smith wins please.

I've actually heard all the Record of the Year/Song of the Year nominees this year. That's something.

I am surprised "Black Widow" didn't get a nomination for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration - though it looks like Iggy Azalea was nominated in the pop categories rather than rap.

I am going to predict Joan Rivers gets a posthumous Grammy for Spoken Word.

Haim... Ya know what? I didn't like you when you were called Wilson Phillips, and I still don't like you now.

Huh. Two of the nominations for "Best Traditional R&B Performance" are covers of Stevie Wonder tunes.

Robert Glasper Experiment - "Jesus Children"
Marsha Ambrosius & Anthony Hamilton - "As"
