We would cruise around in the dark with headlights off looking for dark patches on the street or a home with no lights on.

This could easily have gone so wrong.

Palm Springs midcentury modern is absolutely gorgeous, and those photographs are especially neat. My dad and I actually built that Swiss Miss Chalet about halfway down the page out of gingerbread this year.

Is it just me, or do these houses have a sense of sadness about them? They feel like a dead end. A trip never taken.

Is Palm Springs that bright at night? Where I am, if you've only got moonlight and street lamps for lighting, shit looks dark. I understand the long-exposure stuff, but there's an awful lot of greens and browns in his work.

A little bit of moonlight goes a long way when you leave the shutter open for 20 seconds.

I spend a few weekends a year in PS, including, always, Modernism Week (unfortunately, their main link seems to be down right now). Thank you for posting this - beautiful series of photographs!
