"You have to wrestle with the accusations."

Last year, Brandon Milburn, a former intern-turned-youth minister at the First Christian Church of Florissant, MO (also known as FCCF -- a 2,500-member megachurch in North St. Louis County) was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting multiple children. Fourteen months later, he was convicted and sentenced to 25 years in prison. His conviction, and concerns that a senior minister may have attempted to cover up what had happened, are "tearing the congregation apart." Links in this post contain descriptions of sexual abuse that some may find disturbing.

Professor Doug Lay's website compiling reports and articles about Milburn and the FCCF. The latest (to date) version of his case study: "Is It Enough: Sexual Abuse Within the Church: A Case Study at First Christian Church of Florissant" can be seen here. (pdf)

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is a terrible thing that happened, but I'm not sure there's enough here to make it a conversation distinct from the many we've had on the subject. -- restless_nomad

This should tear the church apart. Abuse happened and it was ignored. Being torn apart is the least that should be happening there.

Those poor kids. Good on the adults who didn't fail them, who called it in.
