Related to, but not a double of, the compendium of post-apocalyptic cinema discussed last week. posted by MrMoonPie at 2:56 PM on February 26, 2002
There's a book out there called "The Reign of Antichrist" that is an interesting compiliation of Christian-specific apocalyptic prophecy. I have an old copy somewhere, but can't find it at the moment... I believe the author was killed in a mysterious car accident shortly before it was published, though. posted by j.edwards at 3:00 PM on February 26, 2002

I didn't see 'Giltter' anywhere on that thing. They're not taking their mission very seriously, are they. posted by dong_resin at 3:36 PM on February 26, 2002
Dude, language is inherantly illustrative and inexact. It is only through grasping the nature of the language that we use that such questions can be dissolved. Language illustrates. The nature of language cannot be illustrated, since an illustration cannot simply illustrate itself - but it may be grasped. It is hard, but it can be grasped - practice seperating objects from their meaning. And recognize how confusion in language causes other confusion. Like when we say we wish for something, we take what is clearly only a state of mind (pining) and transform it into something which we insist has meaning but clearly has none other than our inability to see what language is. So who cares if he cites sources if for most readers the conceptual sketch he offers appeals?

Huh. I've never heard that before.
Oh...
I guess that made itself a lie. If I'd never heard it, I couldn't comment on it.
Such is language.
