Swim Thru Fire, a series she illustrated, written by Annie Mok, for Hazlitt.

Foster-Dimino’s ability to articulate very specific, very familiar, rarely articulated emotional sensations is uncanny here. (...) “Have you noticed that loving someone is like pouring water into a well,” asks the frenemy. “You don’t pour water into a well you get water out of a well,” protests the protagonist, now crying. “Your lover is a deep dark delicious well & you’re nothing but a bucket,” her tormenter responds without missing a beat. “Not even a cool bucket,” she continues, “a lackluster ordinary bucket—that feels so heavy but holds so little.” To be blunt, fuuuuuuuck.

I love Italo Calvino, Umberto Eco, Borges, Atwood, Nabokov, Lem... I like stories of solitary narrators exploring strange buildings, thinking about human interactions from a remote point.She used to be a Google Doodler.

The exemplar of the genre is of course the expressive work of Akihiko Yoshida on such '90s classics as Tactics Ogre, Ogre Battle, and Final Fantasy Tactics. Many examples from the last of these: here.
I both really like what Foster-Dimino has done with it, and I also get a warm feeling that we have mutually recognized the greatness of this particular form.

Her comic/article on Cibo Matto is one of my favorite bits of music "writing". Her style is tops.
