It's an familiar fable in New York City: Dumped on the curb by the West Side Highway, a stranger to the city with no name and no connections, just a ferocious will. With a little luck and a lot of talent, a year later she's making her Broadway debut: The Story of Rose, a white rat. (SLNYTimes)

Awwww! Now I want playwrights to create a variety of plays starring rats for Rose and friends to enjoy.

Rats are actually pretty awesome. The only reason I stopped keeping them as pets was that their lifespans were too short and it got too sad.

I'm very much looking forward to "Pizza Rat: The Musical!"

I just read this via a tweet (which I obviously read too fast) and was very surprised that it was about a rat- rat. I was expecting a human "Broadway rat," like a "gym rat." That said, I probably wouldn't have clicked on the link if I'd known it was about a rat-rat, so perhaps being an inattentive reader is full of happy accidents.

Adorable! I wonder now whatever happened to my elementary school class pet rats, Coca and Cola. They were so sweet.

You know, if this were about a cat who made it to Broadway, it would have 800 comments by now. MetaFilter is more prejudiced than it thinks.

A sad end to the story: Rose has died in an accident at home.

I was going to mention it but was too depressed to link.
